Women Net Season-Best 83 Points in CACC Undoing at Caldwell

Caldwell, N.J.- The Georgian Court Unversity women's basketball squad continues to attempt to fill the win column as the Lions suffered an unfortunate 95-83 dismissal at Caldwell University Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekend action.

GCU slips to 0-7 (0-4 CACC) on the year while the Cougars stay perfect in conference play at 3-0 (5-4 overall).

Neither team owned an advantage of more than three points in the first half until the Lions secured a five-point surplus with 4:23 remaining before intermission after a Morgan Peacock (So.-Edison, N.J.) jumper put the visitors up, 32-27. A mini 5-0 spurt by Caldwell tied the affair at 32-all with 3:30 left on the clock leading to a 40-38 lead at the halftime horn for the Cougars.

The second stanza was owned by the home team as Caldwell led wire-to-wire with a half-high lead of 12 points coming on two separate occasions, including at the the final whistle.

"We still lack poise at times, but we are becoming a true team," said GCU head coach Jasmina Perazic. "We have a lot of hard work ahead of us in order to become a team that others will respect. We must develop a much better defensive mind set and learn defensive rotations. We are improving and the team is really together. I am very happy with the progress."

Caldwell's Emily Caswell (Sr.-Wakefield, R.I.) dazzled with a double-double of 33 points and 13 boards. Teammate Antoinette Pilla (So.-Scarsdale, N.Y.) also exceeded the 30-point plateau with 31 points of her own.

Kiara Colston (Fr.-Burtonsville, Md.) sat atop the Georgian Court scoring column with her team-best 17 points, followed by Tahira Matthews (Sr.-Bloomfield, N.J.) who netted 16 in just 14 minutes off the Lions' bench. Jaelyn Tweedy (Fr.-Richmond, Va.) and Peacock also reached double-digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lions take a week to reassess as GCU does not take the floor again until next Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Lincoln University.
