Lions Bid Farewell to Seniors Baker, Lawler, and Williams in Season Finale vs. USciences

Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball team celebrated the collegiate careers of seniors Brittany Baker, Liz Lawler, and Inayah Williams prior to its season finale Tuesday evening vs. University of the Sciences. in the GCU Wellness Center. The Lions went on to lose to the visiting Devils, 65-53, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.

GCU finishes the year 4-22 (3-16 CACC) while USciences ends the regular season with an 18-8 (13-6 CACC) mark.

An Isabella Ross (Jr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) layup 5:35 into the first half broke a 7-7 tie and provided the Devils a lead they would not relinquish. A Jessica Sylvester (Jr.-Trevose, Pa.) three-pointer with 6:35 made the score 28-17, a highwater mark for the stanza.

After trailing 32-22 at intermission, the Lions came out of the locker rooms firing as GCU scored the first seven points of the second half to cut the USciences advantage to just three points. The Devils quickly regained the momentum and coasted to the victory, increasing their lead to a stanza-best 15 points (62-47) after another Sylvester three-ball with 2:13 remaining.

Camille McPherson (Fr.-West Orange, N.J.) topped all scorers with her 20 points while collecting a team-best eight boards. Sylvester drained four total three-pointers en route to 14 points in 31 minutes. Brianne Traub (Jr.-Wayne, N.J.) tallied 12 points in 28 minutes of action.  

Tahira Matthews, the reigning CACC Player of the Week, registered her third straight double-double (seventh overall) in leading the Lions with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Ashiri Broadwater poured in 13 points and snagged 10 boards off the GCU bench, resulting in her sixth double-double of the campaign.
