Men's Hoops Falls at Chestnut Hill College,75-62, in CACC Action

Philadelphia, Pa.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad, five days after earning its third non-conference victory of the season, continues to seek its first-ever conference contest win as the Lions dropped a 75-62 decision at Chestnut Hill College Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

The Lions see their record fall to 3-12 (0-8 CACC) while the Griffins improve to 4-10 (3-4 CACC).

With a slow start on the offensive side of the floor for both clubs, Georgian Court experienced its first lead of the day after a Keith Hughes (So.-Woodbridge, N,J.) jumper put the roadsters up, 9-8, with 13:03 remaining in the first half. A Michael Pierre (Fr.- Melrose, N.Y.) layup at the 11:16 mark put GCU ahead, 13-11, which marked the Lions' final advantage of the afternoon.

A Christian Walck (Sr.-Lancaster, Pa.) three-pointer at 8:14 concluded a 10-0 burst for CHC, putting the Griffins ahead by eight at 21-13. The Lions immediately answered with a 10-2 run of their own to tie the affair at 23-all at the 5:40 mark after a layup and subsequent free throw by Juwuan Carter (Fr.-Paterson, N.J.). Chestnut Hill ended the stanza by outscoring GCU, 12-7, over the remaining time to enter the break with a 35-30 lead.

It was all Chestnut Hill in the second session as the home team stormed out of the locker room with a run of 17-6 to put the Griffins up by a score of 52-36 at about the halfway mark of the frame (10:26). The lead would grow to a highwater mark of 24 after a CHC spurt of 16-8 put the game out of reach at 68-44 with 6:33 left on the clock.

Walck paced the victors with a game-high 27 points in 38 minutes, which included 8-of-16 shooting from the floor and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Carter topped the Lions with his 18 points, to go along with six rebounds, over 30 minutes. Chris Polanco (Fr.-New York, N,Y.) grabbed a team-high seven boards in 21 minutes of action.

GCU returns home this Tuesday evening with a CACC home contest vs. Wilmington University at 8:00 p.m. The Lions suffered an 82-74 divisional road setback vs. the Wildcats back on December 17.
