Lock Haven, Pa.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad took to the road Saturday afternoon as the Lions suffered a 76-50 non-conference defeat at Lock Haven University.
The setback leaves GCU in search of its first triumph of the campaign (0-6) while the Bald Eagles of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) soared to 2-4 on the year.
Lock Haven controlled the affair from the opening tip, leading 14-2 after the initial quarter of play and 33-12 at intermission. The Lions came out of halftime recharged as the visitors matched the Bald Eagles point-for-point in a 19-19 third frame, but the home team poured in 24 points in the final stanza to seal the victory.
Rachael McDaniel (Gr.-Plainfield, N.J.) topped the victors with 17 points, including five three-pointers.
J.J.Hilliard (Sr.-Bethlehem, Pa.) countered with 15 points to go along with four assists.
Lysa Mealing (Sr.-Altoona, Pa.) snared a game-high 13 boards while adding eight points of her own.
GCU's
Alliyah Berger topped all players with her 18 points in 37 total minutes.
Jaelyn Tweedy poured in 16 points while swiping a game-best six steals.
Alba Herrero-Gomez and
Destiny Thompson grabbed six rebounds apiece for the Lions.
It's back to CACC play for Georgian Court as the Lions head to Chestnut Hill College this Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. divisional showdown vs. the Griffins.
