Philadelphia, Pa.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad succumbed to host-Chestnut Hill College Wednesday evening as the Griffins dropped the Lions by a 76-65 mark in the Sorgenti Arena.
Chestnut Hill, playing its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest of the year, improves to 3-2 overall (1-0 CACC) while the Lions remain on the prowl for their first victory of the season (0-7, 0-3 CACC).
The evening got off to a promising start for the visitors as the Lions overcame an early seven-point deficit, ending the first quarter tied at 14-14 after a 9-2 GCU rally.
Georgian Court extended its run to 15-2, giving them a 20-14 advantage with 7:29 remaining before intermission. Unfortunately, the Griffins turned on the jets with a 17-9 burst to enter the locker room with a slight 31-29 lead.
GCU appeared to run low on steam in the third frame as Chestnut Hill rolled to a 54-44 surplus heading into the final period. The lead increased to a game-high 16 points on three separate occasions in the fourth as the Griffins owned a lead of 64-48 with 7:05 to go.
The Lions were able to claw their way to within five after an 11-0 run over the next two minutes, but the home team rallied for a 12-6 sprint over the final 5:05 of regulation to secure the victory.
Both teams shot an identical 26-for-77 (33.8%) from the floor and 66.7% from the charity stripe. Chestnut Hill connected on 18 of 27 free throws while the Lions sank a limited four of six.

Brittany McDonough (Jr.-Brooklyn, N.Y.) popped in a game-high 27 points, including four of eight from beyond the three-point line.
Jaeda Wildgoose (Fr.-Somerset, N.J.) gaggled 14 points for the Griffins while
Mary Trossi (Fr.-Somerset, N.J.) authored a double-double consisting of 10 points and a game-best 13 boards.
Alliyah Berger came within one rebound of her own double-double as she paced Georgian Court with 17 points and nine boards over 39 minutes of action.
Jada Atchison followed with 16 points and a team-high seven helpers while
Jaelyn Tweedy dropped in 12 points and gathered five swipes.
Jess Placher compiled 27 minutes off the GCU bench, depositing 11 points (including three three-pointers) in the process.
The Lions return home for a Saturday matinee vs. Wilmington University (1:00 p.m.) in the GCU Wellness Center.
