Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to visiting Wilmington University by the score of 71-48 on Saturday afternoon. The Lions fall to 0-8 (0-4 CACC) with the loss while the Wildcats improve to 5-3 overall (1-1 CACC).
The teams were evenly matched through the first quarter as the Wildcats managed just a four-point lead (16-12) after the first session. The Lions stormed back in the second quarter taking the lead, 20-18, with 6:42 remaining before intermission. Wilmington regained their composure after the GCU run to outscore the home team, 21-6, over the remaining time to enter the half up, 39-26.
The result was never in doubt in the back half of the contest as the Wildcats developed a 20-point advantage (53-33) after the third period and a 23-point surplus to close the affair.
The Wilmington attack was led by Tenicia Spence (Sr.-Baltimore, Md.) who had a game-high 19 points for the victors. Lindsay Bradford (Sr.-Gwynn Oak, Md.) chipped in with 12 points and eight boards while Emma Matthews (So.-Smyrna, Del.) added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double. Jordan Hawkins (Fr.-Glen Burnie, Md.) manned the middle of the paint defensively, collecting four blocked shots to go along with 10 rebounds.Georgian Court was paced by freshman sensation
Jada Atchison who led the Lions with 15 points. Atchinson also contributed five rebounds and three assists to complete a solid all-around game.
Jess Placher helped out with nine points, five rebounds, and three assists while
Jaelyn Tweedy also contributed nine points.
The Lions will look to break into the win column on Tuesday night as they welcome the University of the Sciences to the Wellness Center for a 6pm tipoff.
