Bloomfield, N.J.- Bloomfield College enjoyed a Senior Day triumph Saturday afternoon as the host-Bears breezed past visiting Georgian Court University, 82-58, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's hoops action.
GCU (2-21, 2-14 CACC) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and grew that advantage to as much as eight, 21-13, with 10:48 remaining before intermission. Bloomfield cut the deficit to 22-21 after an 8-1 sprint over the next 2:35.
With the Lions holding on to a slim 26-25 lead at the 5:56 mark, the Bears launched a smothering 16-0 spurt to take a commanding 41-26 lead with 3:02 remaining before halftime. BC would proceed to increase the surplus to 49-28 heading into the locker rooms.
Georgian Court would never get closer than 15 points in the second stanza as Bloomfield's lead grew to a session-best 26 on two seperate occasions.
Tahira Matthews led the way for the Lions in the losing effort, collecting 20 (or more) points in a game for the sixth time this season.
Kiara Colston and
Morgan Peacock followed with 10 points apiece for Georgian Court.
BC's
Tianna Smith (So.-Nanuet, N.Y.) topped all players with her 29-point effort while teammate
Ariel Wilson (Jr.-Chesapeake, Va.) added 23 of her own.
Lauren Deverin (Sr.-Sewaren, N.J.) provided 16 points.Â
The Lions return home Tuesday evening when they host Chestnut Hill College at 6:00 p.m. for its annual "Play 4 Kay" cancer awareness event.
