GCU Men Unable to Gain Momentum in 81-64 Loss to Visiting Chestnut Hill

Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball team entered its game with Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday night full of excitement and optimism that a home conference victory was in its future. However, Billy Cassidy (Primos, PA) and his Griffin teammates had other plans for the evening as the visitors from Chestnut Hill came away with an 81-64 victory.

The Lions (5-19, 2-15 CACC) came out firing behind Jordan Wejnert's team-high 24 points and nine rebounds. As both teams went on runs, it was the Griffins who finished the first half with a 37-27 lead. Georgian Court came out of the locker room and cut into the lead, drawing as close as five with momentum on its side. However, it was Cassidy's three-pointer from the corner that stabilized the Chestnut Hill team as Lions were unable to finish the comeback. Cassidy finished with a game high 27 points on 8- of-13 shooting from long range. As a team, Chestnut Hill (5-19, 4-13 CACC) made 12 three's on 57% shooting from deep.

Keith Hughes had a solid night scoring 18 points and collecting eight rebounds. The Lions lacked a third scorer behind Wejnert and Hughes on this night to help balance the Lions' attack. The Griffins' Christian Walck (Lancaster, PA) and Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, PA) each reached double figures with 13 and 11, respectively.

The Lions will next take the court in Connecticut on Saturday as they play Post University. The team returns home on February 24th to celebrate their first-ever senior night as Wejnert will be honored prior to tip off. Game time is scheduled for 8pm.
