Lakewood- The Georgian Court University women's basketball team took to the floor trying to bring energy to the Lions' faithful as the team hosted Chestnut Hill College. Unfortunately, they were unable to sustain the high effort throughout the game and fell to the visiting Griffins, 77-60.
The Lions (2-22, 2-15 CACC) certainly provided the home crowd plenty to cheer for in the first half as the team shot 44% from the field on their way to a 35-34 halftime lead. The second half was a much different story. As both teams traded baskets for the first 10 minutes of the second stanza and with the score tied at 46, it was Chestnut Hill (5-19, 4-13 CACC) who was able to pull away by going on an 11-0 run and never looking back.
Georgian Court was led tonight by
Kiara Colston, who had a career game of 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Morgan Peacock chipped in a solid performance of 15 points and nine boards while
Tahira Matthews had her 13th double- double of the season with 11 and 10, but struggled from the field, going 5-21.
For the visitors,
Nina Mazzarelli (West Chester, PA) paced the victors with 23 points while the duo of
Tenisha Townsend- Mobley (Pleasantville, NJ) and
Tiffany Turner (Marlton, NJ) added 21 and 16, respectively.
The Lions will travel to Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut on Saturday to wrap up the road portion of their season before returning home on February 24th to face University of the Sciences on Senior Night.
Matthews and
Jameka Parsons will be honored for their time with GCU in a pre- game ceremony. Tip off is scheduled for 6pm.
