Lakewood, NJ- The Georgian Court University women's basketball team finished the 2014-2015 season against University of the Sciences on Tuesday night with a 66-48 loss.
Like many of the games this season, the young Lions showed flashes of competitiveness, but not enough to secure the win. The night was highlighted by the pre-game ceremony to honor the two graduating GCU seniors,
Tahira Matthews and
Jameka Parsons, who were each playing in their final game as Lions.
University of the Sciences (19-7, 15-4 CACC) jumped out to an early lead and carried that momentum into the locker room along with a 36-18 lead. The second half was a much better showing for the Lions as the team equaled USP with 30 points apiece.
Kiara Colston paced three Lions into double figures with 15 points. Matthews and
Morgan Peacock each contributed with double- doubles. For the Sciences,
Brianne Traub (Wayne, NJ), who recently recorded her 2000th career point, kept her excellence going with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Jessica Sylvester (Trevose, PA) and
Kaitlyn Schmid (Howell, NJ) chipped in with 14 and 11, respectively.
For first-year head coach
Jazz Perazic there were more positives than the overall record (2-24, 2-16 CACC) would dictate as a squad consisting of eight first-year players suited up for the Lions. "This was a learning experience for all of us, including me." stated Perazic. "We needed to learn what it takes to compete in this conference (CACC). With a little more experience, we will see a vast improvement going forward."
The excitement that began with the young players who were able to contribute this season will only grow as Coach Perazic and her staff will now have a full off-season to develop this talent.
