Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball team took the floor against fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Post University, Saturday afternoon as part of its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration. The Lions dropped a tough one to the previously winless Eagles by the score of 82-72.
It was a back and forth affair as the Lions (5-16, 3-10) won the first quarter, 23-15. The Eagles soared back in the second quarter, tying the game at 29-29 as they went into the halftime break. Georgian Court came out of the locker room ready to play, outscoring their opponent by eight and looked to have control of the game. It was not to be as the Post University exploded for 35 fourth-quarter points, earning its first victory of the season (1-20, 1-11 CACC).
Georgian Court put four players into double figures as
Jada Atchison led the way with 21 points.
Jaelyn Tweedy followed closely behind with 20 points of her own.
Alliyah Berger (13 points) and
Destiny Thompson (10 points) each shared the team high with eight rebounds apiece.
Tyra Jones (Jr.-Rochester, N.Y.) paced the Eagles with a game high 22 points as Dericka Sims (Jr.-Chesapeake, Va.) and Gabriela Middleton (Fr.-Coral Springs, Fla.) each finished with 12 points. Post held a 41-30 advantage in rebounding, but it was their 47% shooting from the floor that led the Eagles to the win.
The Lions will look to right the ship when they next take the floor on Wednesday February 3rd against Chestnut Hill College. Tipoff is scheduled for 8pm.
