Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad closed out its inaugural GCU Invitational in grand fashion Sunday afternoon as the Lions played host to the #1 team in the nation, Bentley University. The visiting Falcons soared past the home team, 73-42, in the contest to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Georgian Court (1-1) enjoyed a brief 4-2 advantage 2:21 into the game before Bentley closed out the opening session on an 18-5 run. The Falcons would coast into intermission with a 36-20 advantage. The visiting surplus would never dip below 15 points the rest of the way as Bentley took the second half by a margin of 37-22.
Jaelyn Tweedy topped Georgian Court with her 12 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
Jada Atchison and
Alliyah Berger ollowed with nine points apiece.
Alba Herrero-Gomez shined defensively for the Lions with her team-best eight rebounds and four blocks.
GCU opens play within the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Wednesday evening as the Lions travel to Chestnut Hill College for conference competition. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
