Philadelphia, Pa.- A Vicky Tumasz (Jr.-North Wales, Pa.) lay-up with 49 seconds remaining in regulation provided Chestnut Hill College a narrow one-point advantage as the Griffins would hold on to edge visiting Georgian Court University, 80-78, Wednesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action.

The victory keeps Chestnut Hill's record unblemished at 2-0 (1-0 CACC) while the Lions slip to 1-2 (0-1 CACC) on the year.

After finishing the first quarter all square at 22-22, the Griffins slipped into intermission with a 40-38 advantage after narrowly winning a second period (18-16) during which the home team never led by more than four points. 

CHC appeared to break open the affair in the third session after compiling a nine-point lead (51-42), courtesy of a Tumasz three-ball at the 5:16 mark of the period.

The Griffins would possess a 62-55 surplus heading into the fourth-and-final quarter, but the relentless Lions never disappeared from view. GCU battled to recoup its first lead since the opening period when Jaelyn Tweedy's three-pointer inched the visitors ahead, 75-73, with 3:30 to go.

Another Tweedy trey at the one-minute mark resulted in a 78-77 lead, and a glimmer of hope for the Lions, but Tumasz's ensuing lay-in seized the Georgian Court surge.

Four Lions eclipsed double-digits in the effort, led by Alliyah Berger's double-double effort of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Tweedy, with the aid of four three-pointers, finished with 18 points. Jada Atchison dropped in 13 points, which complemented her six helpers. Destiny Thompson also enjoyed a double-double of her own by tallying 10 boards and 10 points.

GCU returns home this Saturday for a non-conference home game vs. Mercy College. Tip-off will take place at 1:00 p.m.
