Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad hosted its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest of the 2016-17 campaign Tuesday evening as the Lions dropped a 63-47 decision to visiting Holy Family University in the GCU Wellness Center.
After outscoring the Tigers, 13-11, in the initial quarter of action, the Lions were only able to muster one point (18-1) in the second session as Holy Family (1-4, 1-0Â CACC) waltzed into intermission with a commanding 29-14 advantage over the home team. The HFU lead expanded to 20 points (48-28) after three periods of play before the Lions (2-3, 0-2 CACC) finished on a high note by outscoring their guests, 19-15, in the final frame.
GCU mustered a shooting mark of only 28.8% (19-66) on the night, compared to a 37.3% (22-59) effort by Holy Family.
Alliyah Berger paced the Lions with her team-best 18 points in 32 minutes of action while swiping six boards and four steals.
Destiny Thompson secured a game-high 16 rebounds (11 defensive) to go along with eight points in 34 minutes overall.
The Lions return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Bloomsburg University at 1:00 p.m. in non-conference competition.
