Wilmington, Del.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad, taking to the road for only the second time in seven contests this season, journeyed down to Goldey-Beacom College Wednesday evening where the Lions suffered a 67-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) defeat vs. the host-Lightning.
GCU (2-5, 0-3 CACC) deposited the first four points of the game, and owned a slim 6-5 advantage 5:29 into the first quarter, before Goldey-Beacom (2-5, 2-1 CACC)Â closed out the opening session on a 15-5 run for a 20-11 lead.
The GBC surplus would increase to a 16-point margin (37-21) at intermission and a game-high 25 points (59-34) with 9:40 remaining in regulation. The Lions refused to roll over, however, as the road team would short-circuit the Lightning with a nifty 25-8 run to close out the game.
Alliyah Berger garnered her third showing of the season with 20 or more points by depositing a team-best 24 in the effort to go along with nine rebounds and a roster-leading four assists and three steals.
Destiny Thompson buried 12 points and led the Lions with 10 boards to register her second double-double of the year.
Lexi Bruno (Jr.-Millville, N.J.) paced the Lightning with her game-high 28 points and nine rebounds in leading Goldey-Beacom to its 250th victory since GBC's women's team resurrected in 2000-01.
The Lions now return home for a 1:00 p.m. visit from University of the Sciences this Saturday in CACC action.
