Sluggish Start Sets Stage as GCU Women Suffer 54-42 Setback to USciences

Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad was unable to rebound from a nightmare of a first quarter Saturday afternoon as the Lions were tagged for a 54-42 loss vs. visiting the University of the Sciences in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition.

The Devils (7-2, 2-1 CACC) blanked the Lions, 21-0, in the initial frame as GCU missed each of its seven field goal attempts in the period. The home team awakened in the second by outscoring its guest, 17-11, to enter intermission trailing by 15 points (32-17).

Both clubs matched each other point-for-point in the third quarter as the Lions and Devils dropped in 16 points each before USciences topped GCU, 9-6, in an offensively-challenged final stanza.

Alliyah Berger drilled a game-high 18 points to account for at least one bright spot for Georgian Court. Jaelyn Tweedy added 11 points of her own while Destiny Thompson secured eight boards to along with seven points.

The Lions (2-6, 0-4 CACC) next travel to Philadelphia University this Tuesday evening for another CACC divisional matchup. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.
