Georgian Court Women Edged by Felician University, 63-60, in Saturday Hoops Action

Rutherford, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad traveled to Felician University Saturday afternoon as the Lions dropped a 63-60 decision to the Golden Falcons in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition.

GCU, which was seeking its second straight road win after last Saturday's victory at Post University, drops to 3-13 (1-9 CACC) on the season. Felician, with the victory, snaps a three-game slide and improves to 4-13 (3-7 CACC) overall.

The contest commenced with some positive mojo as the Lions concluded the first quarter with a 17-13 advantage. The tide turned in the second stanza, however, as Felician flexed its muscle and took the period by a 19-9 margin to secure a 32-26 surplus heading into intermission.

The Golden Falcons grew its lead to 11 points in the third when a Marya Trapp (Jr.-Red Bank, N.J.) three-point play put the home team ahead, 44-33, with 3:34 remaining in the frame. GCU tightened its laces and sprinted on a quick 10-1 run to cut the score to 45-43 with 38 seconds left in the third.

Felician would counter with a 8-2 spurt to start the fourth quarter, creating a 53-45 margin. The Lions refused to roll over as a Kaitlyn Lister lay-in placed GCU within one point (53-52) with 6:54 left. Lister would strike again at the 3:33 mark as the freshman's three-ball knotted the score at 55-55.

Unfortunately, the Georgian Court surge would stop at that point as the Golden Falcons soared to an 8-2 run to register a 63-57 lead with 11 ticks remaining in regulation.

"I felt much better about our performance today," stated GCU Head Coach Jazz Perazic. "There was more hustle and more intensity on defense.  I was very happy with Kaitlin Lister's performance today. Kaitlyn Borghesi was also solid with her defensive effort. We will continue to work. We won't stop. We will never stop trying to improve."

Alliyah Berger, for the seventh time this season, exceeded the 20-point plateau as the senior paced the Lions with her game-best 28 points. Berger also topped the GCU roster with eight boards and five steals on the day. Lister added a season-high 10 points while Jaelyn Tweedy added 10 points of her own. Borghesi dished six assists in the effort.

Trapp secured a double-double effort of 24 points and 10 boards for the victors, draining a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. Danelle Gibson (So.-Bronx, N.Y.) contributed 12 points and three steals to the Felician win.

Georgian Court returns home Tuesday evening for another CACC showdown, this time vs. Goldey-Beacom College. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
