Lakewood, N.J.-
Alliyah Berger highlighted what was otherwise a not-so-memorable evening for the Georgian Court University women's basketball squad Tuesday evening as the senior shooter collected her eighth effort with 20 or more points and fourth double-double in an eventual 69-49 setback to visiting Goldey-Beacom College.
Berger drained a team-high 22 points and snared a personal season-high 12 rebounds in the effort for the 3-14 (1-10 CACC) Lions while also topping the roster with five steals and four assists.
Aside from an initial 5-4 surplus by GCU early in the first quarter (8:24), the Lightning (12-8, 8-3 CACC) possessed the lead the entire way. Goldey-Beacom increased its advantage to a game-high 23 points on two separate occasions in the third quarter.
Jaelyn Tweedy also eclipsed double-digits in the Georgian Court scoring column with 10 points in 37 minutes.
As for Goldey-Beacom,
Lexi Bruno (Jr.-Millville, N.J.) paced the victors with 22 points and a game-best five helpers.
Britani Bryson (Jr.-Hampton, Va.) contributed a double-double consisting of 18 points and 10 boards while also swiping four steals.
Amanda McGrogan (Fr.-Mount Laurel, N.J.) drained a trio of three-pointers, ending the evening with 11 overall points.
"I am again okay with our effort, we are constantly making strides forward," stated GCU Head Coach
Jazz Perazic. "I like that we are improving, this effort will pay off. We will continue to do our best. I am not happy about our results so far and definitely had higher expectations, but one thing is certain that no matter what the score is or what our record is, we will never give up ... this team will be a great team!"
The Lions return to action Saturday afternoon with a non-conference road contest at LIU Post. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
