Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's basketball squad, hosting its annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day celebration, took to the floor vs. first-place Bloomfield College Saturday afternoon in front of high-energy crowd of nearly 400 spectators in GCU's Wellness Center Arena.
The Lions (3-17, 1-12 CACC) came out playing inspired basketball in the first half, trailing only by one (11-10) after the opening quarter and just three points at intermission. Unfortunately, the Bears (15-6, 12-1 CACC) proved to be too mighty in the second half, outscoring GCU, 38-25, over the final 20 minutes of action en route to their fifth consecutive victory.
" (I) love our effort and love our progress," shared GCU Head Coach
Jazz Perazic. "We are definitely not ready for the likes of Bloomfield, but looking at our stats and seeing positive assist to turnover ratio, I can only be happy.  I am saying it again and again, this team will be a great team!"Â
Bloomfield's
Deja McKenzie (So.-Baltimore, Md.) topped all players with her 22 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Tianna Smith (Â Sr.-Spring Valley, N.Y.) followed with 18 points of her own, nailing 8-of-16 field goal attempts.
Bobbi Floyd (So.-Las Vegas, Nev.) cleared the glass of a game-high 10 boards.
Alliyah Berger led the way for the Lions with her 18 points and nine rebounds over 35 minutes of play.
Destiny Thompson added 12 points while
Jaelyn Tweedy drained a trio of three-pointers for nine points on the afternoon.
GCU takes a few days off before trekking to Wilmington University on Wednesday evening (6:00 p.m.) for a key CACC divisional contest.
