Box Score Caldwell, N.J.- In a contest that Georgian Court University led by 11 points at one point, the Caldwell University offense turned up the heat as the host-Cougars ran away with a 91-73 victory Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's hoops action.
The Lions (3-19, 1-14 CACC) jumped out to a healthy 15-4 advantage just 3:42 into the contest, winning the first quarter by a 24-18 margin. In fact, GCU would hold the lead all the way to the 3:32 mark of the second stanza when an
Alba Herrero-Gomez layup put the visitors ahead, 36-35. Caldwell's
Sharell Sanders (Jr.-Dorchester, Mass.) countered with a steal and lay-in to put the Cougars in the lead, 37-36 ... and the home team would not look back again.
After heading into intermission with a 44-38 surplus, Caldwell (18-4, 13-1 CACC) would scorch the Lions, 28-15, in the third frame, going ahead by 26 at one point, en route to a 47-35 second-half triumph.
"Caldwell has a potent offense," stated GCU head coach,
Jazz Perazic. "We had some good moments but, lost our focus on defense too many times. Of course, losing is never fun. but I see tremendous progress. I know that this team will never give up."
Antoinette Pilla (Sr.-Scarsdale, N.Y.) dazzled for the Cougars with her game-best 32 points on the day, including 12 of 14 shooting from the floor.
Kristen Drogsler (Jr.-Middle Village, N.Y.) and
Rachel Simon (So.-Wallkill, N.Y.) each added 18 apiece while Sanders contributed a double-double consisting of 13 points and 10 assists.
GCU'sÂ
Alliyah Berger authored her team-leading fifth double-double of the campaign with 22 points and 10 boards, giving the senior over 1,000 points in her combined collegiate career (Towson University). 879 total points have come while playing just 48 games sporting the Georgian Court royal and gold.
Teammates
Jada Atchison and
Jaelyn Tweedy drained 16 and 14 points, respectively, for the Lions as each drilled four three-pointers apiece.
Georgian Court now returns home to host Chestnut Hill College Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. in a CACCÂ divisional showdown.
