Lakewood, N.J.- Five different Lions drained 10 or more points in Tuesday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) showdown vs. Chestnut Hill College, but Georgian Court University still succumbed to the Griffins, 92-78.
The Griffins, winners of five of their last six outings, improve to 14-8 (9-6 CACC) on the season. GCU, looking for its first triumph since January 7 (@ Post University) stumble to 3-20 (1-15 CACC) overall.
Georgian Court jumped out to an initial 5-0 lead to start the contest, and held a one-point lead (13-12) with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter. That would mark the home team's final advantage of the game as a
Nicole Parriski (Jr.-Burlington, N.J.) layup with 4:07 left made the score 14-13 Chestnut Hill. The Griffins would close the stanza with a 26-19 surplus before cruising into intermission up, 50-37.
Chestnut Hill never looked back in the second half as the Griffins expanded their lead to a game-high 17 points on two separate occasions in the fourth frame.
The visitors registered six players with 10 or more points, including 19 from
Vicky Tumasz (Jr.-North Wales, Pa.).
Shannon Glenn (Fr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) followed with 18 points while
Mary Trossi (So.-Somerset, N.J.) authored a triple-double consisting of 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
On the home front,
Alliyah Berger topped all players with 24 points, the senior's third straight effort with 20 or more points and 12th overall. Both
Jada Atchison (10 points, 13 assists) and
Destiny Thompson (14 rebounds, 14 points) contributed double-doubles while
Kaitlyn Lister drained 10 points of her own.
GCU remains home to host Dominican College Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
