Staten Island, N.Y. - The Georgian Court University men's & women's track & field squad, competing in its final competition of 2018, carried the momentum of last Saturday's sensational showing into this week as the Lions shattered seven more records in the Wagner College Shootout, the last action of the calendar year for GCU.
Women
Aretha Edwards, for the second straight week, erased a long-standing mark from the Lions' record book as the freshman sensation became the team leader in the 300m Dash with a first-place time of 41.38 seconds. The effort tops the previous-best of 42.65, set by
Eboni Watford five years to the day (12/7/13) at the Princeton New Year Invite.
Edwards, who became the Lions' leader in the 60m Dash a week ago, topped all-comers in the event on this day with a finish of 7.93 seconds, followed by
Kevona Jones (2nd-place) at 8.13.
In 60m Hurdles,
Jennifer Tregillies registered a second-place finish of 9.55 seconds while the quartet of Edwards, Jones, Tregillies and
Shaviahnah King entered the GCU annals with a time of 4:22.74 (2nd-place) in the 1,600 Sprint Medley.
The foursome of
Kaylie Wessberg,
Samantha Rozon,
Meesha Samuels, and
Rachael Pausz finished in third-place with their collective time of 4:19.03 in the 4 X 400 Relay.
Georgian Court dazzled on the runway as
Aniyah Russell (5.22 meters) and
Lyric Green (11.42m) earned first-place honors in the Long Jump and the Triple Jump, respectively.
Deanna Martin soared in her own right with a second-place height of 2.15 m in the Pole Vault.
Stephanie Bock rocked in throws competition with first-place showings in both the Shot Put (12.19m) and the Weight Throw (13.91m).
Men
On the men's side, the Georgian Court gentlemen were mighty impressive with five new team marks and eight first-place finishes on the day. On the track,
Charles Wolef-Fields outran the competition with a top time of 6.96 seconds in the 60m Dash.Â
Devin Martin eclipsed his own week-old record (8.52 seconds) with a first-place finish of 8.37 in the 60m Hurdles.
Chukwuebizie Anuamadi eclipsed the team mark in the 600m Run with a second-place time of 1:24.46, erasingÂ
Tom Natoli's effort of 1:25.46 set at this same event a year ago (12/8/17).
Hussein Elmeshad sprinted to a first-place finish of 4:27.41 in the One Mile Run.
In the 1,600 Sprint Medley, Martin, Wolef-Fields,
Noah Roach, and
Liam Solano combined for a team-best time (1st-place overall) of 3:35.67).Solano also placed second on the day with a mark of 2:39.84 in the 1,000m Run.
Dylan Breen, like Martin, exceeded his own team record (6.83m) with a first-place leap of 6.84 meters in the Long Jump.
Cameron Wardle (6.70m) and
Joshua Clyburn (6.39m) followed in second and third place, respectively. Martin carried the field with a victory in the Triple Jump (13.98m), with
Jeshurun Devero taking the second spot at 13.76m.
Evan Boyce (4.35m) and
Daniel Smoke (3.60m) packed a one-two punch in the Pole Vault.
In throws action,
William Goldsborough snared first-place in the Shot Put with a heave of 16.27m, crumbling the previous team-high of 16.06m set by
Joseph Kaas back on 2/12/16 at the Molloy College Invite.
Ryan Roger followed in second with his toss of 15.87m.
Troy Bass finished third in the Weight Throw with a team-high 14.67 meters.
The Lions return to competition on Friday, January 11 in the Saint Thomas Aquinas College Invitational, hosted by the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
