Women's Basketball Season Gets Underway With Two Games in Connecticut

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Nov. 10, 2022) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball plays two on their season-opening weekend.

So Far in 2022...
• Georgian Court played two exhibition games against Division I opponents.
• They started with a game at Delaware State and their most recent action before this weekend was Monday, Nov. 7 at Towson.
• In the CACC Preseason Coaches Poll, Georgian Court was picked to finish fourth in the South Division, same as their 2021-22 finish.

In 2021-22
• The last time GCU took the court was the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament. As the number four seed in the South Division, they took on the top team in the North Division, Post, where they fell 74-62.
• The Lions went 13-13 last season with a 10-8 mark in conference play. 
• Georgian Court finished the year strong winning seven of the last eight regular season games. 

Key Returners
• The Lions are bringing back two who scored in double-figures last season. Sophomore Erika Aspajo averaged 12.9 points per game while shooting 43.5% from the floor and a team-best 34.6% from three. She also led the team with 102 assists and 53 steals.
• Tian Addison also returns for her senior season. She scored 10.9 points per game in 21 games shooting 35.8% overall and 30.4% from three.
• In limited action last season, A'nya Harper was effecting shooting 56% from the floor (14-25) and grabbing 2.4 rebounds per game. 
• Precious Adediran provided outside shooting off the bench going 9-20 from three in just 15 games. 

Newcomers
• Georgian Court is bringing in three true freshman for the 2022-23 campaign. Imani Gillette and Leah Snisky are two local freshman from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, respectively. Paula Perez-Fagregas joins the Lions from Naron, Spain. 
• Also new to the Lion roster this season are A'nyah Barker, Jariah Patterson, and Jadelynn Smith. 

About the Opponents
Southern Connecticut State Owls

• Southern Connecticut finished fourth in the NE10 Southwest Division last season with an 8-10 league record and 13-14 overall. 
• This season the NE10 has gone away from the two division model and all 13 teams are combined together. SCSU was picked to finish second overall in the conference and earned two first-place votes. 
• In the 2022 NE10 Tournament, SCSU took down top-seed Southern New Hampshire in the quarterfinals.
• The Owls graduated leading scorer Jessica Fressle who averaged a double-double per night.
• SCSU brings back a pair of double-digit point scorers. Zoe Amalbert averaged 13.3 points per game and sank a team-best 50 three-pointers. 
• Delaney Connors scored 12.1 points per game with 5.1 rebounds. 
• Southern Connecticut is looking to get a lot from transfers Ashley Evans and Isabella Santoro. Evans comes from Division I Lafayette and graduate transfer Santoro averaged nearly 10 points per game playing for Stonehill. 

New Haven Chargers
• New Haven was in the basement of the Southwest Division in 2021-22 with a 5-14 conference record.
• In the 13-team league, New Haven was picked to finish in 10th place.
• The Chargers are bringing back four of their top-five scorers from a year ago who accounted for more than 63% of the overall team scoring.
• Graduate student Camryn DeBose scored 13 per game a year ago and is joined again this season by Aurora Deshaies who averaged a double-double with 12.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per contest.
• Prior to the down year last year, the Chargers were a combined 36-21 the previous two seasons. 
• The New Haven defense allowed just 62.8 points per game, but they scored below 60 at 58.6 points per game. 
• New Haven took 139 fewer three-pointers than opponents and connected at a 30.5% clip from long range.
