Three Lions in Double-Figures Not Enough at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2022) - Georgian Court saw three in double-figures as they reached 80 points in consecutive games, but it wasn't enough on the road at Saint Rose. The Golden Knights scored 46 in the first half, then survived a late Lion comeback attempt, 87-80.

How it Happened
• Both teams shot the ball at an incredible clip. The Lions hit 29-65 for 44.6% and were 11-26 from deep, 42.3%. But Saint Rose was exceptionally efficient hitting 29-53 and were 9-21 from behind the arc.
• The Golden Knights were also nearly perfect at the free throw line going 20-21. GCU hit 11-of-17.
• Rebounds favored Saint Rose 36-28 and they won in the paint 38-28.
• Georgian Court did a good job holding onto the ball, turning it over just eight times and forcing 12 turnovers.
• Despite being on the wrong side of the turnover battle, Saint Rose outscored GCU 16-12 in points off turnovers and 12-0 in points in transition.
• The scoring started with CSR knocking in a pair of free throws, which were then answered by two freebees from Cameron Edmonds. The Golden Knights then hit their next three baskets, including two from downtown, as they stretched their lead to 10-2.
• Georgian Court did a good job of weathering that storm and a 15-6 Lion run gave them their first lead, 17-16, following a Hassan Jackson three.
• Saint Rose took the lead right back on the following possession, but the Lions kept things close. Two free throws from Jackson brought GCU to within three, 33-30, with 4:39 remaining in the half.
• From there though Saint Rose started to pull away. They scored 11 straight points turning their three-point lead, into a two touchdown lead, 44-30. Jamaal Waters and Justin Soranno ended the cold spell with a couple of layups in the final 30 seconds of the half, but Saint Rose led 46-34 after 20 minutes.
• The teams traded baskets at the start of the second half which meant GCU couldn't dig into the Golden Knight lead. With 6:37 left to play, CSR still led by 14, 77-63, but Georgian Court still had some fight in them.
• Clint Wright, Jr. hit a three. Then Waters with a jumper and a three of his own and suddenly it was a two-possession game, 77-71, still with five minutes left. Saint Rose now led by seven, 83-76, with 1:37 to play when Wright, Jr. hit a jumper and Jelani Jackson's layup got GCU within three, 83-80.
• Time was running out though and GCU needed to put the Golden Knights at the line to extend the game. They didn't miss, hitting a pair with 28 seconds to play, then added a layup to get to the final score, 87-80.

It Was Over When...
• Down five, 85-80, with 28 seconds left the Lions needed a miracle. Jelani Jackson's three missed and gave the Golden Knights possession back. They put the game on ice with a layup with just 14 seconds remaining to hang on.
