KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 19, 2022) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball led nearly wire-to-wire in their 76-70 win on the road at Kutztown. It's the Lions second win in a row and puts them at an even 2-2 on the young season.
How it Happened
• The Lions enjoyed another fine afternoon shooting the ball, hitting on 45.7% of their attempts. Kutztown was efficient as well shooting 44.8%.
• GCU attempted 20 three-pointers, making six of them. The Golden Bears made just four and that six points was the difference in the ball game.
• At the foul line, Kutztown helped themselves going 14-19 while the Lions were 6-10.
• Each team pulled down 37 rebounds. The Lions nabbed 14 on the offensive glass to Kutztown's 11, but second-chance points favored GCU by just one, 11-10.
• Georgian Court did a good job protecting the ball once again, turning it over just 10 times. They forced 15 and scored 17 points off turnovers and 13 on the fast break.
• The game started out with each team hitting three of their first four field goals and early on was tied up at six. GCU took a slim lead, 11-8, and never trailed again. The Lions made five of their first six attempts.
Shane Williams buried his second straight three and put the Lions up 14-10.

Clint Wright, Jr. hit a three putting the Lions up eight, 19-11, and they were off and running.
Jalen Bates found
Justin Soranno on the fast break, giving the Lions their largest lead, 25-16, and forcing a Golden Bear timeout.
• GCU looked to be in control up 13, 33-20, with 7:50 left to play in the half, but Kutztown started to dig into the lead. They scored 10 straight in a four-minute span, making it a three-point game, 33-30, with 3:50 left. They cut it all the way down to just one, 35-34, and even had a chance to take the lead with under a minute remaining in half.
• Williams though, swatted a shot attempt in the closing seconds and Bates with a three-quarter court pass to Soranno under the basket who put it up and in just before the buzzer sounded on the half and the Lions went to the locker room up three, 39-36.
• Coming out of the half, GCU kept the pace up and scored the first seven to get back to a double-digit lead, 46-36. With GCU up eight, Kutztown again started to make some noise. They got the lead down to one, 55-54, thanks to an 18-9 scoring run. But Wright, Jr. hit a long two and Williams with three the hard way brought the lead back up to six, 60-54.
• The lead hovered around five much of the rest of the way. With under three minutes left,
Jelani Jackson made a driving layup and
Titus Beard connected for three to make it an eight-point lead with 2:12 remaining.
• In the final minute, GCU closed it out going 5-7 at the free throw line, including Wright, Jr. hitting 4-4 as they held on for the 76-70 win.
It Was Over When...
• With 16 seconds left Wright, Jr. iced the game knocking in both free throws putting GCU up 74-67.Â
Lion Stat Leaders

Clint Wright, Jr. scored a game-high tying 19 points going 6-13 overall and 3-5 from three.Â

Jamaal Waters chipped in 16 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double.

Justin Soranno was 6-8 from the floor and scored 12 points.

Shane Williams and
Jelani Jackson each added nine points. Williams also gabbed five boards and passed out four assists.Â

Jalen Bates and
Titus Beard combined for nine assists as the Lions moved the ball around exceptionally well.
For the Golden Bears
• Wesley Butler matched Wright, Jr.'s 19 points.
• Robert Tucker had a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds. He also blocked four shots.Â
• Jalen Bryant scored 15 points, going 8-9 at the foul line.Â
News and Notes
• Georgian Court led for 94% of the game and 37:36 out of 40 minutes.
• GCU passed out 18 assists on 32 made baskets. That's their most assists in a game this season. They started the day assisting on 11 of their first 13 made baskets.
• This game marked 50 in the career of
Titus Beard.

Clint Wright, Jr. made his 100th career three-point basket, just the third Lion to ever reach the century mark. He's got 101 for his career and needs just seven more to become the all-time leader at GCU.
• In their last two games, the Lions have committed just 18 turnovers combined.Â
• GCU has scored at least 75 points in each of their last three games.Â
• The Lions 45.7% shooting was their highest mark of the season thus far.Â
• Not a good week for the Golden Bears against Georgian Court. In addition to this afternoon's loss to the men, the Kutztown women lost to the Lions on an Imani Gillette buzzer beater Wednesday night.
