WILMINGTON, Del. (Dec. 6, 2022) - Georgian Court defense came to play Tuesday evening in Wilmington. Squaring off with the top-scoring team in the CACC, the Lions more than held their own, coming out on top 70-62 over Goldey-Beacom. They held the Lightning to 24 points below their season average and improve to 4-3 overall and 2-0 to start the CACC.
How it Happened
• Georigan Court shot 53.2% overall including going 15-23 in the second half. Goldey-Beacom shot 44% overall but were just 4-23 from three and 8-13 at the free throw line.
• Goldey-Beacom grabbed 31 rebounds to the Lions 28 and despite grabbing six more offensive rebounds, were outscored 13-9 in second-chance points.
• Each team turned the ball over 19 times, but Georgian Court took advantage, outscoring the Lightning 22-17 in points off turnovers.
• Georgian Court got in an early 5-0 hole, turning the ball over three times in the first two minutes. They quickly cleaned up their act though and a
Jalen Bates three followed by a layup from
Clint Wright, Jr. gave them their first lead, 9-7.

Shane Williams pushed that lead to 12-7 nearly five minutes into the game. That's when the scoring stopped for GCU though. They went more than seven minutes without a point as Goldey-Beacom scored nine straight for a 16-12 lead.

Jamaal Waters ended the drought and took over from there. He scored eight straight for GCU including an old-fashioned three-point play and then a three pointer in a 30 second span as he put the Lions back on top.
• Andrew Tummings, Jr. highlighted a 17-4 Lion run with another three, putting the Georgian Court up 29-20. Goldey-Beacom hit a three at the buzzer and after 20 minutes GCU led 30-23.
• Georgian Court started out the second half 5-of-7 and led by as much as 14, 46-32. Goldey-Beacom responded and continued to chip away at the GCU lead.
• With just under five minutes remaining, Goldey-Beacom brought it down to just two, 58-56, following a three-pointer.
• But Georgian Court immediately scored eight straight in a 1:58 span getting a pair of three-pointers from
Jelani Jackson and a jumper from
Clint Wright, Jr. to go back out in front by double-figures, 66-56 and force a GBC timeout.
• The lead remained at two possessions the rest of the way and Georgian Court walked out of Wilmington with a 70-62 win.
It Was Over When...

Jelani Jackson stopped a Lightning scoring streak with back-to-back triples in a 30 second span with four minutes left to play. Those two, followed by a
Clint Wright, Jr. bucket put GCU back up 10 and they led the rest of the way.

Jamaal Waters led all scorers with 19 points going 8-14 for the field with six rebounds and four steals.

Clint Wright, Jr. added 16 points. He grabbed six boards as well.

Jelani Jackson scored 10 going 2-3 from three.
•
Shane Williams was 2-3 from three and scored eight points with six rebounds and three assists.
•
Jalen Bates scored six poitns and dished out five assists with four rebounds, two steals and a block.
For the Lightning
• Off the bench, David Aikens led GBC scoring 15 points going 7-13 overall with six rebounds and four assists.
• Zayon Marsh finished with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
• Trey Lewis was also in double-figures scoring 11 with three three-pointers.

Jamaal Waters eclipsed 50 rebounds in his first seven games as a Lion.

• Georgian Court has won their first two conference games for just the second time in school history.
• Goldey-Beacom entered averaging 86 points per game. They were held below 70 for the first time all season.
• This is the first time Georgian Court shot better than 50% this season. They also set a season-high in steals with 14.
• In two conference games this season, the Lions are giving up just 60 points per game.
