LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Dec. 9, 2022) - In an entertaining game between two faced-paced offenses, Georgian Court Men's Basketball fell to East Stroudsburg 108-86 Friday evening in nonconference play. After a close first half, ESU pulled away in the second to secure the win. The loss drops GCU to 4-4 on the season.
How it Happened
• East Stroudsburg entered the game receiving votes in the latest NABC top-25 Coaches Poll.
• Each team shot the ball near the 50% mark with GCU hitting on 45.6% of their field goals and ESU connecting at a 49.4% clip. From three, Georgian Court was 8-24 while the Warriors went 11-31. The Lions struggled to connect at the foul like making just 16-27, while ESU was 17-20.
• Turnovers were a factor for both teams. GCU lost the ball 22 times and ESU 19. Off those turnovers, the Warriors scored 33 points while GCU just 21. ESU also scored 27 in transition.
• East Stroudsburg had the edge on the glass collecting 47 rebounds to Georgian Court's 38. The Warriors grabbed 18 offensive boards and turned those in 25 second-chance points. In the paint, ESU also outscored the Lions 56-38.
• Neither team started out all that hot. ESU scored the first six points of the game as GCU finally got on the board at 16:30 in the half. A free throw from
Justin Soranno at the 13:05 made it 8-8 and it seemed for a little while, this might be more of a defensive battle.
• But the offense picked up. After the Warriors took a 10-8 lead, GCU scored six straight on back-to-back layups from
Jamaal Waters to take their largest lead of the game, 14-10.
• The lead was short-lived, but the Lions kept things close.
Jelani Jackson tied the game at 31 with a jumper with 3:58 to play in the opening half, but immediately after, ESU scored 12 straight in a 90 second span to take their largest lead of the half, 43-31. A three from
Shane Williams and
Jamaal Waters layup brought the lead down to seven, 43-36 at the half.
• After a
Hassan Jackson three kept the Warrior lead under 10, ESU scored seven straight getting two free throws, then two steals and fastbreak scores as they opened up a 57-41 lead.
• The lead hovered around 20 points the rest of the way and the Warriors went on to win by 22, 108-86.

Clint Wright, Jr. brought the lead down to 16, 75-69, with 9:19 left, Mike Ramos quickly answered with a three to start an 8-0 run, en route to their largest lead in the game, 83-59.

• The Lions 86 points scored is their most in a game this season.
• Their 50-point second half is their second time this season hitting 50 points in half. They scored 51 against Roberts Wesleyan in the second game of the season.
• The 194 combined points are the most ever scored in a GCU basketball game in team history. Twice they combined for 193, most recently last season at Nova Southeastern.
