WILMINGTON, Del. (Sept. 16, 2022) - Georgian Court Cross Country wrapped up three races in three weeks in grand fashion. The men's team, led by
Kyle Spector's first-place finish, took home the team trophy. While the women had just four compete, not enough to be included in team scoring, all four ran season-best times.
All five Lions who scored finished in the top-10 individually. They totaled 28 team points, besting second place Holy Family by 26 points. The five Lions who scored all ran below 30 minutes and finished with a team average time of 29:03.1.
One week after finishing in second place overall, Spector bettered himself, this time winning the 8K race, holding off Andrew Konieczny of Neumann by seven seconds. Spector ran 28:00.1, to come in first in the field of 49.
Alec Valle placed inside the top-five as well. He was fourth overall running 28:52.2.Â
Not far behind Valle was
Joseph Jamolawicz. He placed sixth overall in 29:02.4.
Will Spector and
Thomas Rosky placed back-to-back in eighth and ninth. Spector ran 29:31.2 and Rosky 29:49.6.
Also competing for GCU were
Riley Keffer (12th, 30:14.3),
Dylan Navarro (15th, 31:29.7),
Charli Dominguez (21st, 32:06.0) and
Sean Donnamaria (34th, 34:55.2).
The women did not run enough to qualify for the team scoring, but it was a successful day nonetheless. All four Lions who did run set season-bests. They were led by
Brenna Sullivan who finished the 5K in 22:35.7. The freshman finished just outside the top-10 in 12th place and took a minute off of her previous season-best.
The three other Lion women ran in a pack and helped each other throughout the course.
Niya Barden came within a few seconds of knocking a minute off of her season-best time. She ran 24:22.1. and placed 23rd.
Selma Cazimoska was right beside her in 24th place also running 24:22.1.
Madalin Jones wasn't far behind in 25th, crossing the line in 24:31.0.Â
The women's team and individual champion went to the University of Delaware. They scored 15 points, the best possible team score in cross country and had the top seven finishers. Grace Chesley was the overall winner running 19:30.3.Â
The Lions have done a lot of racing to start the season with three races in 15 days. They'll take a breather next week and will race again Friday, Sept. 30 at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh.Â
