BLOOMFIELD, NJ (Jan. 21, 2023) - Searching for their first win over Bloomfield in team history, Georgian Court will have to wait another day. Bloomfield took an early lead before going on to a 98-88 win as the Lions have now dropped three straight to fall to 9-9 overall and 5-4 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• Bloomfield shot better than 50% for the game and were 12-27 from three. Georgian Court connected on 37.8% from the field and hit 13-31 from downtown.
• The Bears scored 22 from the foul line, mostly late in the game. They were 22-30. The Lions also went to the line a bunch, hitting 19-of-25.
• Bloomfield's size gave them an advantage under the basket. They led in rebounding 47-38 and outscored GCU 32-24 in points in the paint. The Bears also blocked nine Lion shots while GCU misdirected just one.
• Georgian Court hung around thanks in part to 16 Bloomfield turnovers. They turned those mistakes into 23 points.
•
Shane Williams had the first basket of the game. Following a Bloomfield turnover, Williams buried a three for an early 3-0 lead. That would be the Lions only points in the first 5:52 of the game. Bloomfield scored six straight to take the lead and never trailed again.
• For five straight possessions, the teams traded three-point baskets.
Cameron Edmonds and
Jelani Jackson went back-to-back from three to make it a one-point game, 12-11. But Bloomfield followed that up with a 7-0 run connecting on two triples for a 19-11 lead.
• With five and a half to play in the half, GCU went on a 5-0 stretch to get to within three, 29-26.
Hassan Jackson completed a three-point play to cap the scoring run. Over the final 4:32 though, the Bears extended their lead by outscoring the Bears 14-8. They whacked three three-pointers including one at the buzzer from Andres Fulgencio to give him 19 in the first 20 minutes. After 20 minutes Bloomfield was up 10, 47-37.
• Two scoreless minutes started the second half, but then we were off and running. Abdallah Elsaleh and
Clint Wright, Jr. traded three-pointers, but then the Lions went cold. As Bloomfield was 6-9 from the floor, they opened up a 21-point lead, 64-43, thanks to a 14-3 stretch at the 12:30 mark.
• Georgian Court tried to chip away at the lead. They scored 51 in the second half, but the Bears matched them stride-for-stride. GCU was unable to get the lead back below 10 as the Bears made 7-of-8 at the line in the 56 seconds to keep the Lions at bay.
It Was Over When...
