NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Dec. 1, 2023) - Georgian Court University Men's Soccer standout
Mathias Madersbacher was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for October, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Madersbacher earns the award for having success on the pitch during the month, while also being a standout in the classroom and giving back to his surrounding community.
Madersbacher appeared in seven matches during the month and posted a game-winning goal, assisted on two others, collected four points and fired off seven shots on goal in 432 minutes of action. He helped GCU pick up three wins in October and the Lions clinched a spot in the CACC playoffs where they ultimately reached the semifinals. He ranks among program's all-time top 10 in goals, assists and points.
At the end of the season, Madersbacher was named to the All-CACC Second Team, finishing the year with seven goals, three assists and seven points, leading the Lions in goals and points.
In the classroom, the senior from Kramsach, Austria boasts a 3.73 cumulative grade point average in his major of exercise science. He won the Leadership and Service Award to the Field of Exercise Science in 2023; presented a research study at Research Symposium at Montclair State in the Space Grant Consortium; earned a Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society Research Scholarship; and been named to the New Human Sciences Honor Roll.
In the community, he has spent Saturdays at Saint Vincent's Church delivering donated furniture to those in need and collected/sorted other donated items that were to be delivered.
The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month Award is given each month from September through May, spanning the course of the academic calendar. The award recognizes not only the athletics component, but also excellence in academics and community service. This is the first CACC Student-Athlete of the Month award for the Lions this season. They earned five during the 2022-23 season.
