Women's Basketball Wraps Up First Semester With Home Game vs. Assumption

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Dec. 18, 2023) - After a tumultuous two weeks which saw numerous cancelations and postponements, Georgian Court Women's Basketball is ready to return to action.

Previously vs. Assumption
• The Lions and Greyhounds have some history together.
• All-time GCU is just 1-4 against Assumption. That win came in December of 2021.
• These two teams met last year on the exact same day, Dec. 19. That was a win for Assumption 72-29. GCU shot just 20% for the game.

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court finally got back on the court Sunday at New Haven. It was their first game in 15 days.
• Things didn't start well for the Lions who got down 33-7 after the first quarter.
• They did pick it up over the final 30 minutes and were outscored by just three the rest of the way.
• Niyell McCargo picked up her first career double-double scoring 18 points with 12 rebounds, both career-highs.
• Safitau Kolliegbo was also in double-figures with 11 points.

• Safiatu Kolliegbo is fifth in the league scoring 14.5 points per game. 
• Karissa Smedley is ninth in the CACC with 2.9 offensive rebounds per game. 
• The Lions are seventh in rebounding grabbing 37.1 per game. 
• GCU is also eighth with 7.2 steals per game. 

Who's Hot?
• Niyell McCargo set career-highs with 18 points and 12 boards at New Haven. Her first career double-double. 
• Safiatu Kolliegbo has double-digit points in seven of eight games this season. 
• Samantha Jones has scored seven points in back-to-back games. 
• Karissa Smedley has scored eight or more points in two of her last three games and has 24 rebounds during that stretch.

• Erika Aspajo is one three-pointer away from 50. 
• Safiatu Kolliegbo will hit 50 rebounds with two more. 
• Leah Snisky is four rebounds shy of 50.

About Assumption
• Assumption has long been one of the top defensive teams in the country and that has continued in 2023-24. 
• The Greyhounds are second in the nation allowing teams to shoot just 31% from the floor and sixth allowing just 51.1 points per game.
• This season, Assumption is 6-2 and currently ranked 25th in the WBCA top-25 coaches poll.
• They've won two straight and are 3-0 against CACC teams and 2-2 playing away from home.
• They Greyhounds themselves are shooting 43.4% overall and scoring 68 points per game.
• Assumption is a +3 per game in turnovers thus far this season and their 1.4 assist:turnover ration is third in the country.
• Marina Callahan is leading the team scoring 16.1 points per game. Her 59.5% field goal percentage is 13th-highest in Division II.
• Molly Stokes is also in double-figures scoring 13.5 points per game. Her 15 three-pointers lead the team.
• Kaijhe Hall is scoring 9.9 points with 8.4 assists per game.
• Amanda Mieczkowski has 50 assists and her 6.2 assists per game rank sixth in the nation.
