Waters' 31 Powers Lions Comeback

RUTHERFORD, NJ (Feb. 11, 2023) - Georgian Court got down early but roared back, outscoring Felician 40-26 in the second half of their 70-62 win. The win stops a three-game slide for GCU while they even up their CACC record at 7-7 and improve to 11-13 overall.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court had a successful day shooting the ball. They hit on 46% overall and 41% from three. Felician meanwhile shot 37% from the floor and 32% from behind the arc.
• Felician kept themselves in the game turning it over just eight times while the Lions lost it 18.
• Under the basket, GCU outrebounded Felician 40-29 while points in the paint were even at 28.
• GCU stayed out of foul trouble committing just 10 all game while the Golden Falcons were called for 13.
• Georgian Court never led in the opening half. The teams were exchanging baskets in the opening minutes as a Jamaal Waters dunk made it a 10-8 game in favor of the Golden Falcons.
• That's when the lid was put on the Lions basket. They went almost seven full minutes without scoring as Felician extended their lead to 17, 25-8.
• But as we've seen in the past, the Lions don't go down easy. Following the Golden Falcons 15-0 run, they went on a 12-0 run of their own to get back to within five, 25-20. Waters had seven of the Lions 12 points during the stretch.
• Felician got the lead back up to nine, but the Lions held the Golden Falcons scoreless over the final 2:50 and got to within six, 36-30 as the first half came to a close.
• Coming out of the second half, GCU scored eight of the first 10 points and a Clint Wright, Jr. three at 16:14 tied the game at 38-all. After the teams went shot-for-shot, Wright, Jr. with another three game the Lions their first lead, 45-42 with 13:03 left to play.
• From there, the Lions never trailed again. Waters with back-to-back baskets made it a seven-point game, 49-42.
• The score hung around that seven point margin for a little bit, but GCU scored six points in less than a minute to go up double-figures. Cameron Edmonds made a layup then a Felician technical foul put Wright, Jr. at the line where he sunk a pair. After the free throws, Shane Williams hit a jumper putting the Lions up 65-52 with five minutes to play.
• Felician outscored the Lions 10-5 over the final five minutes, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Lions came away with a 70-62 win.

It Was Over When...
• That 60 second stretch where the Lions extended their lead from seven to 13 with five minutes to play put the game out of reach. Felician did themselves no favors with a technical foul call and Wright, Jr. at the line and Williams with a basket made them pay.
