Ahead of CACC Tournament, Lions Wrap Up Regular Season

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Feb. 24, 2023) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball has already earned a bid into the 2023 CACC Tournament. That starts next Tuesday, Feb. 28. Before that though, GCU finishes up the regular season Saturday night.

Previously vs. Chestnut Hill
• Earlier this season in Lakewood, Chestnut Hill escaped with a 75-64 win over the Lions.
• The Griffins held a 52-41 lead midway through the second half before GCU crept closer. 
• GCU had the Griffins on the ropes, trailing by just one, 61-60 with 2:17 to play. But CHC scored 10 straight and put the game away at the foul line going 10-10 in the final minute.
• Jamaal Waters nearly had a double-double with 16 points and eight rebounds.
• Cameron Edmonds suck three triples off the bench and finished with 11 points.
• Clint Wright, Jr. scored nine with four rebounds.
• Jalen Bates added eight points, five rebounds and six assists. 
• Hassan Jackson was 3-5 overall for eight points.
• Shane Williams collected 10 rebounds and scored seven points. He also blocked three shots. 

Last Time Out
• Wilmington spoiled senior day for the Lions as they outscored GCU 44-20 in the final 15:07 to come from 19 down for an 88-83 win.
• Jamaal Waters scored a game-high 24 with 14 rebounds and was 8-9 at the line.
• Jelani Jackson added 20 with three triples.
• Clint Wright, Jr. was 4-8 from three and scored 18.
• Cameron Edmonds was in double-figures with 10 points going 2-3 from behind the arc.
• Shane Williams added seven points, six rebounds and three assists.

• Jamaal Waters has reached double-figures in 13 of his last 14 games and averaging 24 over his last three.
• Clint Wright, Jr. is 11-22 from behind the arc the last three games.

• A win will give the Lions their most CACC wins in program history. 
• Shane Williams is two points away from the all-time top-10 in scoring. 
• Jamaal Waters needs 14 more field goals for the most in a single-season at GCU. He also needs one more block for sole possession of third on the single-season list. 
• With two more three-pointers, Cameron Edmonds will make the single-season top-five.

• Under the basket, Georgian Court's 11.73 offensive rebounds are fourth-best in the league. 
• Georgian Court is fifth-best in the league shooting 34.5% from three. 
• Defensively, GCU's 7.5 steals rank sixth in the conference. 
• Jamaal Waters has moved to fourth in the CACC scoring 17 points per game. He's also fourth shooting 53.4% overall. 
• Jalen Bates' 3.9 assists per game are fourth in the conference. His 1.9 steals per game are also third in the league. 
• Clint Wright, Jr. has made the fourth-most three-pointers in the CACC this season at 68. 

Playoff Picture
• Georgian Court has clinched a spot in the 2023 CACC Postseason Tournament. They'll also play on the road Tuesday, Feb. 28.
• What isn't known is the Lions seed and where they'll play. 
• A win and Georgian Court will be the No. 3 seed in the CACC South. They'll then play at the number two seed, either Bloomfield or Dominican.
• A loss puts the Lions at the No. 4 seed. They'll be on the road at Caldwell who has already locked up the CACC North Division crown.

Chestnut Hill Griffins
• Chestnut Hill is one of the hottest teams in the CACC. They've won five straight and are currently 15-12 overall and 9-7 in the league.
• The Griffins lead the league committing 15.2 fouls per game. 
• Defensively, CHC is holding opponents to a 30.6% from behind the arc, second-best in the CACC.
