Women's Basketball Hits the Court at Jefferson

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Jan. 8, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball gets back into the swing of conference play tomorrow evening against a divisional foe.

Previously vs. Jefferson
• Georgian Court's history with Jefferson has been rather one-sided with the Rams holding a 30-6 all-time record against the Lions.
• Two of those wins came last season, 71-46 in Lakewood and 82-57 in Philadelphia.
• The Lions recent history with Jefferson has been better as three of the six all-time wins have come since 2019. GCU is 3-4 against Jefferson in the last seven games.
• In the home game against Jefferson last season, GCU was ahead 15-13 after one quarter, but a strong second and third from the Rams led to the 71-46 Jefferson win.
Jariah Patterson scored 19 in that game going 9-14 overall. In Philadelphia, Tian Addison scored 20 hitting 4-9 from three.

• Georgian Court began 2024 playing up the road at Division I Monmouth. The Hawks defeated the Lions in that one 91-51.
• Three Lions were in double-figures led by Niyell McCargo's 13 points.
Imani Gillette had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double and Marta Guilera also scored 10.

• Safiatu Kolliegbo is ninth in the league scoring 13.8 points per game. She's also fourth with 131 field goal attempts. 
• Karissa Smedley is ninth in the CACC with 2.9 offensive rebounds per game. 
• The Lions are sixth in steals per game with 8.1.
• Shooting 24.5% from three has the Lions seventh in the CACC.
• GCU is also seventh with 13.1 offensive rebounds per contest.

• Niyell McCargo has scored 10+ points in three of her last four games.
Imani Gillette has double-doubles in each of her two games since returning. 
Marta Guilera is averaging 7.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in her last four games. 
• Julia Whesper is averaging 6.3 points per game over her last three and has a three-pointer in five straight.

About Jefferson
• Jefferson is the No. 8 ranked team in the latest WBCA coaches poll (Jan. 2).
• The Rams are 12-1 this season. Their only loss came in triple overtime against Bloomsburg.
• Jefferson has made five straight NCAA Regional appearances and last year bowed out in the regional championship game. 
• Last years D2CCA Regional Player of the Year Haley Meinel is back with the Rams. She's scoring 14.8 points per game.
• But it's been junior Sam Yencha leading the Rams this season. She leads the conference scoring 17.6 points per game and is also first in rebounding at 11.5 boards. Her 63.6% field goal percentage also leads the CACC and she has seven double-doubles. 
• Morgan Robinson is current national leader with 8.5 assists per game and the Rams 19.5 assist per game and 1.62 assist-to-turnover ratio also lead the country.
• Jefferson relies on it's interior game as their 8.9 three-point attempts this season are last in Division II. 
• The Rams also have one of the top turnover margins in the country at 6.54. They're holding teams to just 57.5 points per game this season.
