Women's Basketball Set For Home Opener Saturday Afternoon

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Nov. 15, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball plays on their home court for the first time this season Saturday afternoon.

Previously vs. Bloomsburg
• Georgian Court has not fared well against Bloomsburg in their history at just 1-6 all-time.
• The two teams haven't met since 2016 though.
• Interestingly, this will be the fifth straight meeting taking place in Lakewood. 
• In all seven games against Bloomsburg, GCU has not scored more than 57 in any game.

Individual Milestones
• Jessenia Edwards is eight points away from 50.
• Niyell McCargo is 16 points away from 200 and six assists short of 50.
• Julia Whesper needs five field goals made and four assists to reach 50.
• Eight more free throws made will get Imani Gillette to 100.

CACC Leaders
Jade Dickson is fifth in the conference averaging 1.5 blocks per game. She's also seventh in offensive rebounds per game. 
• The Lions bench is scoring 18 points per game, the fourth-most bench points in the conference.
• Georgian Court is seventh in the CACC with 7.5 steals per game. 

Who's Hot?
Jade Dickson had a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double against St. Anselm.
Maria Stanescu hit a pair of three-pointers against the Hawks.
Marija Markovic was 3-7 from the floor for eight points in just 15 minutes. 

About Bloomsburg
• Bloomsburg is 1-1 to start the year with a win over Salem University and a four-point loss against Virginia State.
• In the preseason PSAC poll, Bloomsburg was picked to finish in sixth place in the nine-team PSAC East Division.
• The Huskies were just 8-20 a year ago, 6-16 in the PSAC but bring back 12 veterans from last year's roster.
• Senior Katie Starr is just that. She was a Second Team All-Region and First Team All-PSAC player last year after averaging 17.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, shooting 55% overall.
• So far, Starr is shooting 50% and averaging nine points per game.
• The Huskies have a veteran team with seven on their roster in their fourth season of collegiate basketball. Leah Kale is another one of those veterans. She's scoring 9.5 points per game this year.
• Bloomsburg is shooting 37% overall but just 24% from behind the arc. They are doing well at the line though shooting 76%.
