STATEN ISLAND, NY (Feb. 18, 2024) - Georgian Court Track and Field competed Sunday evening at the 2024 ECC Track and Field Championships. The Lions hobbled into the meet a little short-handed due to injuries, but still had a successful day.
Throws
• The only event champion came in the shot put where Georgian Court finished 1-2.
Malicah Etienne, competing in his very first conference meet is a league champion after throwing the shot put 52-2.

Robbie Babson finished behind him, but there was still some drama. Babson fouled his first two throws and needed to get a legal mark off to score. He did just that and qualified for the finals and moved up to second place following his throw of 51-3.75.
• Babson finished runner up in both throwing events to earn two All-Conference awards. Earlier in the evening, he was second in the weight throw with his toss of 50-5.
• Though he didn't score,
Anthony Lorenzo had a pair of personal-bests. He took ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 40-4. He was 15th in the shot put throwing 33-11.5.
• For the women in the circle,
Chiamaka Wokocha took 12th place in the weight throw with her toss of 37-7.
Sabrina Halk was 19th at 31-4.

Ingrid Rivera-Zuniga represented GCU in the shot put and finished in 12th place throwing 31-7.5.
Distance
• Georgian Court was able to score some points in the distance races. For the men,
Kyle Spector and
Ryan Pettrow both earned points in the 1000m and mile runs. Spector was fourth in the mile running 4:21.92, a big PR that moved him to third all-time at GCU. He also took third in the 1000m running 2:38.35.
• Pettrow also ran a personal-best in the mile and moved up to seventh all-time. He finished in fifth place in 4:26.73, becoming the eighth Lion to break 4:30 in the event. He later took fifth place again in the 1000m running 2:42.88.
• Also finishing in the top-10 in the 1000m was
Max Salgado-Vidal who ran 2:44.07 for a ninth-place finish.
• In the 3000m,
Joe Jamolawicz and
Thomas Rosky finished back-to-back in 12th and 13th place. Jamolawicz ran 9:50.46 and Rosky 10:04.36.
• The only woman to run more than 500m was
Madalin Jones. She too had a personal-best in the 1000m running 3:28.09 and took 10th place.
Sprints/Hurdles
• The Lion men had a lot of freshmen running their sprint events, with most having good days. Nichols Jordan hit personal-bests in the 60m and 200m. He ran 5.59 for 26th place in the 60m and 23.95 for 25th place in the 200m.

Joshua Tipaldo also ran both short sprint events. He just missed a PR in the 60m dash finishing in 7.98 for 30th place. He then took 32nd place in the 200m with his time of 25.87.
•
Ivan Ramos-Lopez led GCU in the 60m running 7.58 which was 25th in the field.
• In the 400m,
Seth Powell had a top-10 finish and personal-best time of 51.98 which was ninth in the event.
Alexander DeJean was 16th running 55.83.

James McCoy was just inside the top-10 in the 500m. His personal-best time of 1:11.74 was good for 10th place.
•
Shalom Adzakro was the only Lion to reach the finals in the short sprints. She ran 9.33 in the prelims to qualify, then bettered that with a 9.28 to finish sixth overall.
•
Samantha Lonseth competed in the 60m and 200m dash. She was 26th in the 60m running 9.11 and 24th in the 200m at 31.01.
• Georgian Court had four running the 400m on the women's side and three ran personal-bests.
Niya Barden paced the group running 1:02.54 for a personal-best and eighth place finish.

Molly Burns was 12th in 1:05.69 and
Selma Cazimoska 17th in 1:09.80, both personal-bests.
Aaliyah Thorpe picked up a top-10 finish with her time of 1:03.92 to place 10th overall.
•
Amirah Beasley scored for the Lions in the 500m. She was sixth overall running 1:22.28 which is a personal-best and moved her to sixth all-time in Lions history.
Jumps
• Adzakro had another top-10 finish in the long jump. Her mark of 16-0.25 was good for ninth place.
•
Sean Donnamaria was named All-Conference with his second-place finish in the pole vault. He cleared 11-5.75.
• Also in the vault, Ramos-Lopez took third place. He got over the bar at 10-0 which puts him seventh in GCU history.
•
Matthew Sutton took part in the triple jump. He had an eighth place finish with a mark of 41-3.25.
Relays
• Georgian Court men's team finished in fifth place. The team of McCoy, Powell, Spector and Donnamaria ran 3:34.75, a season-best.
• The women also ran a season-best and finished in fifth place. Thorpe, Barden Beasley and Burns finished in 4:16.31.
