Georgian Court Welcomes No. 3 Jefferson to Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Feb. 23, 2024) - Georgian Court has a tall take in front of them as the No. 3 team in the country comes to the Wellness Center.

Previously vs. Jefferson
• Georgian Court's history with Jefferson has been rather one-sided with the Rams holding a 31-6 all-time record against the Lions.
• One of those wins came earlier this season with the Rams picking up an 81-49 win last month. 
• The Lions recent history with Jefferson has been better as three of the six all-time wins have come since 2019. GCU is 3-5 against Jefferson in the last eight games.
• In their first meeting, Jefferson built a big first half lead, going into the break up 45-24. They cruised from there to a 32-point win.
Imani Gillette fell just short of a double-double with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Niyell McCargo added 10 points.

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court and Felician were going back and forth last Saturday afternoon.
• The Golden Falcons held a four-point lead through three quarters, but the Lions roared back and led by as much as seven with 2:44 to play.
• Over that final 2:44 though, Felician outscored GCU 14-2 to snatch the victory, 72-67.
• Four Lions were in double-figures led by Safiatu Kolliegbo's 19 points and eight rebounds.
Samantha Jones, Imani Gillette and Karissa Smedley all scored 10.

• Safiatu Kolliegbo is coming up with 1.90 steals per game, ninth in the CACC.
• Kolliegbo is also just outside the 10th shooting 36.8% overall and her 34.85 minutes per game are the fourth most. 
• The Lions as a team are third with 9.3 steals per game. 
• The Lions are up to shooting 38.8%, fourth-highest in the league. 
• GCU is also fifth with 13.8 offensive rebounds per contest and their rebound margin is sixth in the CACC. 

Who's Hot?
• Safiatu Kolliegbo has double-figure points in nine of her last 10 and is averaging 25 points in her last three games. 
• Imani Gillette is shooting 50% in her last two with 28 points scored.
• Samantha Jones has 10+ points in four of her last five games. 
Karissa Smedley didn't miss against Felician hitting 3-3 from the floor and 4-4 at the line. 

Individual Milestones
Julia Whesper is 13 points shy of 100.
Samantha Jones needs six to hit the century mark and three rebounds for 50.
Jada Jacobs will get to 50 rebounds with two more.
Leah Snisky is nine rebounds away from 100 and Niyell McCargo seven.

About Jefferson
• Jefferson is the No. 3 ranked team in the latest WBCA coaches poll and have been in the top-10 for much of the season.
• They have just one loss on the year, which came in triple overtime against Bloomsburg.
• Jefferson has made five straight NCAA Regional appearances and last year bowed out in the regional championship game. 
• Last years D2CCA Regional Player of the Year Haley Meinel is back with the Rams. She's scoring 14.7 points per game.
• But it's been junior Sam Yencha leading the Rams this season. She is third in the conference scoring 16.6 points per game and is also first in rebounding at 11.4 boards. Her 58.3% field goal percentage also leads the CACC and she has 16 double-doubles, third-most in Division II. 
• Morgan Robinson is current national leader with 8.4 assists per game and the Rams 19.7 assists per game is second and their 1.68 assist-to-turnover ratio leads the country.
• Jefferson relies on it's interior game as their 9.0 three-point attempts this season are last in Division II. 
• The Rams also have one of the top turnover margins in the country at +8.40. They're holding teams to just 55.8 points per game this season and 52.3 against CACC opponents.
