Wildcats Lead End-to-End in Win Over Lions

WILMINGTON, Del. (Feb. 28, 2024) - Georgian Court never led Wednesday night in Wilmington. The Wildcats made their first shot and led wire-to-wire in their 95-61 win. 

How it Happened
• Wilmington finished the game shooting 50% hitting 29-58. They were 16-35 from three and 21-26 at the foul line.
• Georgian Court was 23-61 shooting 38%. They were 0-15 from three and 15-19 from the free throw line.
• The Lions won the rebounding battle 37-34.
• GCU turned the ball over 14 times leading to 19 Wilmington points. Georgian Court scored 10 off nine Wildcat giveaways. 
First Half
• After the Wildcats celebrated their Senior Day before the game, Wilmington came out firing. They hit a three on their first shot of the game.
• Wilmington made 3-4 from three to start the game, getting out to a 14-8 lead. 
• In addition to the three-point baskets they were making, Wilmington also got two three-pointers the hard way.
• After Clint Wright, Jr. grabbed an offensive rebound and put back getting the Lions to 10, the Wildcats made their fourth three-pointer of the half to go up 12, 22-10 at the 13:26 mark.
• That came in the middle of a Wilmington 16-2 run that saw them take an 11-7 lead and turn it into a 27-10 lead midway through the half.
• The Wildcats went on another big run, scoring 10 straight near the end of the half and going up 48-20.
• Over the final 2:26, Georgian Court scored eight, including a jumper from Donavin Crawford as the half expired. GCU still trailed though 53-28.
• Neither team missed a free throw with the Lions going 4-4 at the line and the Wildcats made all 12 of their attempts.
• The three-point line was a difference maker. Wilmington was 9-14 in the first half while GCU was shutout from three, going 0-10. 
Second Half
• Georgian Court was never able to make a big run and threaten the Wildcat lead.
• The teams traded points at the beginning of the half which was more than okay with the Wildcats.
• The three-pointers kept falling for Wilmington who took a 30-point lead, 73-43, at the 11:39 mark. 
• The game remained around 30 points the rest of the way until the final horn sounded with the Wildcats taking the 95-61 victory. 

Lions Stat Leaders
Taheen Braswell-Brown led the Lions scoring 18 points and recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Donavin Crawford added 12 going 8-8 at the foul line.
Clint Wright, Jr. scored nine with four rebounds.
Amari Jones finished with eight points and five boards.
Jahsan Johnson was 4-8 for eight points with two assists. 

For the Wildcats
• Amiri Stewart scored 12 points with six rebounds and a game-high seven assists.
• Taalib Holloman led all scorers with 25 points with six rebounds. He was 10-11 at the FT line.
• Lameen Carter was 3-6 from three for 19 points. 
• Caleb Matthews scored 14 going 4-7 from deep.

News and Notes
Taheen Braswell-Brown matched a career-high with his 18 points. 
• In their 20th meeting with Wilmington, Georgian Court falls to 5-15. 
• Georgian Court was shutout from three for the first time this season.

• Georgian Court ends the season at home Saturday, March 2 taking on Chestnut Hill. Prior to the game, GCU will recognize the 2024 senior class.
