Women's Basketball Hosts Paula Strong Game Tuesday Night

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Feb. 5, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball comes home to Lakewood Tuesday night.

Gameday Promotion
• One of Georgian Court's own, Paula Perez-Fabregas, had to leave the team early and is back home in Spain as she is undergoing cancer treatment's for Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer. To show the support from all of us at Georgian Court, the women's basketball team is selling Paula Strong t-shirts and bracelets with 100% of the proceeds going to Paula and her family.
• Shirts will be on sale in the lobby prior to and during the game. If you cannot purchase a shirt, please wear a white shirt to "white out" the Wellness Center in support of Paula.
• Additionally, all GCU students who come to the game with their student ID will get one slice of pizza from Destino's Pizza. While supplies last. 

Previously vs. Holy Family
• Historically, this has been a very one-sided rivalry with Holy Family holding a 50-8 all-time record.
• Of late though, things have been much closer with the Lions winning three of the last seven. 
• Last season it was the road team that won both games in the series.
• Holy Family got the win earlier this year in Philadelphia to kick off conference play, 80-51. GCU was outscored 23-5 in the second quarter as the Tigers took control of the game.
Safiatu Kolliegbo led the Lions with 14 points and eight rebounds. 

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court held a 40-34 lead at Caldwell at the half, but couldn't hang in as the Cougars came back for a 69-60 victory.
• Caldwell took the lead for good in the third quarter outscoring GCU 17-8.
• Four Lions were in double-figures led by Safiatu Kolliegbo's 14.
Imani Gillette had 13 points and eight rebounds in just 17 minutes of action.
Niyell McCargo and Samantha Jones each scored 11.

• Safiatu Kolliegbo is coming up with 2.06 steals per game, seventh in the CACC.
• She is also 10th in field goal percentage at 35.4% shooting. 
• The Lions as a team are third with 9.2 steals per game. 
• The Lions are up to shooting 38.4%, fifth-highest in the league. 
• GCU is also fifth with 13.5 offensive rebounds per contest and the 0.2 rebound margin is sixth in the league. 
• In CACC games this season, Imani Gillette is scoring a league-best 29.4 points per game. She also is third with 11.1 rebounds in CACC games.
• Marta Guilera is shooting 59.6% from the floor this season, third-best in conference-only games. 

Who's Hot?
• Imani Gillette has scored in double-figures in nine straight games and has double-doubles in six of those. 
• Safiatu Kolliegbo is averaging just under 15 points per game in her last six. 
• Samantha Jones scored a season-best eight points in a season-high 27 minutes at Post. One game later, she set another career-best scoring 11 at Caldwell. 
Marta Guilera is 7-11 in her last three games and 16-16 at the free throw line in her last eight.

• Holy Family is off to a great start at 17-5 and 7-3 in the CACC, sitting in third place in the South Division. 
• The Tigers are getting it done on the defensive end as opponents are shooting just 33.4% overall which is third in the nation.
• They are also in the top-10 allowing just 53.2 points per game. 
• On the glass, the Tigers' +12.5 rebound margin is second in the nation. 
• Holy Family themselves are shooting 38.2% overall and 30% from three.
• Sophomore Taylor Hinkle is leading the Tigers scoring 10.8 points per game. She was recently named the CACC Student-Athlete of the Month for December.
