Georgian Court Track and Field Has Strong Showing at Monmouth Meet

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ (March 30, 2024) - Georgian Court Track and Field was back in action this weekend. The Lions were at the Monmouth Spring Opener for a two-day meet.

The meet featured plenty of locals from Division I and Division II. Georgian Court had an event winner along with nine top-10 finishes. 

Throws
• Georgian Court had four top-10 finishes in the men's throwing events. Robbie Babson took third in the shot put throwing 51-8.5. He was also 13th in the hammer throw throwing 138-1 and 21st in the discus throwing 111-11.
• Malicah Etienne had two of the four top-10 finishes. He was fourth in the discus throwing a new personal-best 157-8. He moved from ninth all-time at GCU to fifth. He was also eighth in the shot put with an outdoor personal-best throw 47-4.25.
• Joseph Sauchelli took 10th place in the javelin throwing 165-7. 
• Thomas Menegus threw the shot put and discus. He was 16th in the shot put throwing 38-9.5 and 24th in the discus at 107-7 which is nearly a 10 foot improvement from his first meet of the season.
• Anthony Lorenzo threw 32-3.75 in the shot put for 25th place and was 26th in the hammer throw at 76-3. 
• On the women's side Sheridan Martinez was the winner in the javelin throwing 127-8. She was also 21st in the discus at 94-11 and 22nd in the hammer throw at 97-10. 
• Chiamaka Wokocha had three top-15 finishes. She had a personal-best throw for ninth place in the discus throwing 120-10, bettering her mark from a week ago by two feet. Wokacha was also ninth in the javelin throwing 96-7 and she took 15th in the hammer throw throwing 123-7.
• Sabrina Halk threw two personal-bests. She was 22nd in the discus throwing 93-7. She was 23rd in the hammer throw at 89-5, which is nearly a four foot PR. 
• Ingrid Rivera-Zuniga had an eighth place finish in the shot put throwing 33-2 which is a GCU personal-best. She was also 14th in the javelin throwing 88-6.
• Ava Reardon competed in the discus throwing 99-2 for 19th place. 

Sprints and Relays
• Samantha Lonseth ran the 100m and 200m for the Lions. She was 40th in the 100m running 14.53 and 41st at 200m running 30.79.
• There were two personal-bests in the 400m for the women. Niya Barden had an outdoor personal-best running 1:03.64 for 28th place. Molly Burns had a GCU PR of 1:05.43 for 31st place.
• Selma Cazimoska ran 1:14.76 for 40th place in the event. 
• Wayne Robinson finished in fourth place at 200m running 22.42. He also set a new personal-best at 100m running 11.43 which is sixth all-time at GCU and was 24th in the meet. 
• Joshua Tipaldo was the only Lion on the men's side to run the 100m and 200m. He finished 20th in the 200m running 26.78 and was 39th at 100m at 12.66.
• Ivan Ramos-Lopez took 27th place in the 100m running 11.59 which is tied for 10th all-time in Lions history. Nicholas Jordan was 35th running 11.73.
• In the 400m, Seth Powell led GCU running 52.81 for an outdoor personal-best and 18th place. James McCoy also ran an outdoor personal-best of 54.52 for 28th place.
• Alexander Dejean crossed in 56.72 for 31st place. 
• In the 4x100m relay, Georgian Court's women's team ran 4:14.61 which is a season-best. 

Distance
• It was a great day the Lions distance runners. 1500m was the distance of choice for GCU. On the women's side, Amirah Beasley set a 32 second PR running 4:59.46 for 24th place. She's just the sixth Lion to ever run sub-five minutes and moves to fifth all-time in school history.
• Madalin Jones also ran a personal-best. She finished in 5:39.52 for 40th place.
• For the men, Kyle Spector had a fifth-place finish. He just missed a personal-best running 4:02.49.
• Ryan Pettrow was inside the top-20 running 4:07.91 for 19th place. That puts him seventh all-time at GCU. Max Salgado-Vidal finished 44th in 4:23.64. It was the first time running this distance in college for both Pettrow and Salgado-Vidal.
• Joseph Jamolawicz hit a personal-best running 4:30.94 for 51st place. Thomas Rosky was 55th in 4:36.25.

Jumps
• Malama Toure led the Lions in the women's long jump. She finished 13th jumping 16-8.5. Ingrid Rivera-Zuniga hit 15-5 and placed 21st.

Up next for the Lions is the Golden Ram Invitational hosted by West Chester Saturday, April 6.
