Women's Basketball Hosts Jefferson, Celebrate Dr. Marbach Tuesday Night

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Jan. 27, 2025) - Georgian Court Women's Basketball are home once again Tuesday night for a CACC South Division clash.

Celebrating Dr. Joseph Marbach
• Prior to the start of the women's game tomorrow night, there will be a special presentation celebrating the retirement of Georgian Court University President Dr. Joseph Marbach.
• All faculty and staff have free admission to the game and are invited to attend.
• In addition to the pregame ceremony, a reception with light refreshments will be available to GCU faculty and staff members in the lobby outside the arena shortly after tipoff. 

Previously vs. Jefferson
• Jefferson has been an historically top team in the CACC. They're 32-6 all-time against Georgian Court.
• The Rams have swept each of the last two season series, with Georgian Court last win coming Jan. 5, 2022.
• Last season in Lakewood, the Rams built a 47-25 lead at the half as they went on to an 80-63 victory.
• The Lions put up 22 in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to challenge the Ram lead.
Safiatu Kolliegbo scored 17 points for GCU while Imani Gillette added 10 points, eight rebounds and Julia Whesper scored 12. 

Last Time Out
• Undefeated in CACC play, Dominican got all they could handle from Georgian Court.
• The Chargers led by as much as 19 with 4:57 to play in the third, only to see it reduced to five early in the fourth quarter.
• Dominican regrouped, pushing the lead to 10 which was the final difference in a 62-52 Dominican win.
Julia Whesper scored a career-high 18 points on 7-11 shooting.

• Samantha Jones is 11 rebounds away from 100
• Niyell McCargo is five rebounds away from 200 and five field goals shy of 150.
• Imani Gillette is three points away from 400 and two more field goals will get her to 150.
Karissa Smedley needs 17 more minutes played to reach 1000 and three rebounds for 150.

• Niyell McCargo has cracked the top-25 in overall field goal percentage and is 11th in CACC-only games. 
• Tyra Lovelock's 2.1 assists per game are just outside the top-20 and her 3.3 in CACC games is eighth. 
• Samantha Jones is in the top-20 in both blocks and steals per game. In CACC-only games, her 51% field goal percentage is eighth. 
• Julia Whesper is second in conference games shooting 60%.
• Maria Stanescu is ninth in three-pointers per game and 10th in three-point percentage. In CACC only games her three-point percentage boosts to fourth.
• The Lions are averaging 20.3 bench points per game, third-most in the CACC.
• Georgian Court is shooting 28.9% from three, sixth-best in the league. 
• GCU is fourth forcing 17 turnovers per game and seventh at 7.6 steals. 

Who's Hot?
• Niyell McCargo is scoring nearly 13.5 points per game over her last four games. 
• Julia Whesper is shooting nearly 57% over her last seven games. She scored a career-high 18 against Dominican. 
• Jade Dickson is averaging 11 points and 10 rebounds over her last two games. 
Alexi Hoy is scoring 10 points per game in her last two while shooting 7-15 overall and 5-9 from three. 

CACC Standings
• Georgian Court is now in the second half of their CACC schedule with just eight games remaining.
• The Lions are 3-5 in league games, putting them in fifth place.
• They're just a game behind Goldey-Beacom who are 4-4 and currently hold the fourth and final CACC South Division postseason spot.

About Jefferson
• Jefferson is once again near the top of the CACC South Division with an 6-2 record in league play, 12-6 overall.
• The Rams have been hot of alate winning five of their last six and three straight.
• In each of those five wins, Jefferson hasn't allowed more than 56 points and twice held opponents below 40.
• On the year, Jefferson is giving up 59 points per game, second-best in the CACC.
• The Rams do a good job holding onto the ball as their 16.1 turnovers per game are second-fewest in the CACC.
• On the offensive side, the Rams are scoring 67.4 points per game. They're led by Emma Kuczynski and her 14.7 points per game. She's done damage behind the line shooting nearly 40% from three.
