Babson, Pettrow Crowned Champions at ECC Conference Meet

STATEN ISLAND, NY (Feb. 16, 2025) - The always exciting ECC Indoor Track and Field Conference Championship meet was held Sunday night at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY. In all, Georgian Court finished with five All-Conference Award winners and two Event Champions. 

Prior to the meet, Georgian Court's Brenna Sullivan was awarded the ECC Elite 20 Award for the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the competition site. Sullivan, a junior, has a 4.0 GPA as a dual major studying Interdisciplinary Studies and Elementary Education. 

For the meet, the Lion men took sixth place scoring 36 total points. The women finished in 11th place with 10 points. 

Throws
• Georgian Court won the shot put for the sixth consecutive ECC Indoor Conference Championship meet. And for the second time it was Robbie Babson crowned champion, the only repeat conference champion during this six year shot put dynasty.
• Babson won the meet throwing 52-7, giving him is second conference championship and third straight First Team All-Conference award.
• Georgian Court also took fifth and sixth place in the event. Malicah Etienne was fifth throwing 49-7 and Mark Linton threw a personal-best 48-9.5 for sixth place and seventh all-time in GCU history on his final attempt of the day.
Anthony Lorenzo and Guius Dabney went back-to-back in 13th and 14th place. Lorenzo was 13th in 40-9 while Dabney threw a personal-best 40-8.25 for 14th place. 
• There's a new school record holder in the men's weight throw and his name is Mark Linton. The sophomore finished third in the competition throwing 57-7 to earn Second Team All-Conference honors. His record breaking throw, just like in the shot put, came on his final attempt, and was a full meter further than any of his previous attempts. At 17.54m he is the first Lion to break 17.00m in the event and bests Pete Collins previous record set in 2016. 
Robbie Babson also finished in the top-eight. He was eighth overall throwing 47-8.
Guius Dabney and Anthony Lorenzo against finished back-to-back, this time it was Dabney placing one spot ahead. He threw a personal-best 42-2, also on his final attempt. He finished 14th with Lorenzo right behind in 15th throwing 41-10. 
• Both Lion women weight throwers set personal-bests. Chiamaka Wokocha scored a point with a sixth place finish. She threw 45-0 which puts her 10th all-time in GCU history.
Adrianna Fodera also threw a personal-best. Her mark of 43-6 put her in eighth place.
Kaydence Fischer earned and All-Conference award with a personal-best mark in the shot put. She threw 37-3.25 which was good for fourth place and a Second Team All-Conference nod.
• Just like in the weight throw, Fodera was eighth in the shot put. She threw 33-10.75.

Distance
• The Lions only event champion on the track was Ryan Pettrow in the 1,000m. Pettrow ran a great race, moving up four spots with between 400m and 200m to go to take the lead. He then held on running the fastest split over the final 200m for the win in 2:39.05.
Amirah Beasley took home an All-Conference award in the 800m. She finished fourth for second team honors running 2:24.57.
Jurnee Tuttle and Kerry Ann Hohenshilt each ran personal-bests in the 800m. Tuttle was ninth in 2:46.74 and Hohenshilt 12th in 3:06.33.
• One place behind Hohenshilt was Samantha Lonseth who placed 13th running 3:07.28.
• In the men's 800m, Zachary Spoonire scored a point coming in sixth place running 2:02.65. 
Brenna Sullivan was the only Lion to race the mile. She finished in 9th in 6:16.64. 
• In the 3,000m, Joe Jamolawicz hit a personal-best running 9:34.72 for 13th place. Matthew Schaub competed in the event for the first time at GCU and finished 18th in 10:20.70.

Sprints
• Sophomore Ivan Ramos-Lopez moved up the all-time top-10 list at GCU with his personal-best time of 7.22 in the 60m dash. That ties him for fifth all-time and was good for 12th place.
Nick Jordan finished 37th in 7.66 and Joshua Tipaldo was 40th in 8.09.
• On the women's side, Jewel Pierrecharles just missed the top-10 in the 60m dash finishing 11th in 8.21. Leela McConnell was 21st in 8.83.
Abdullah Brown was the only Lion to run at 500m. His personal-best time of 1:21.99 put him in 14th place.
• At 400m, Wayne Robinson secured a point for the men running 51.00 for sixth place.
Brandon Rudder ran another personal-best best and moved up the all-time top-10 list to seventh all-time. He finished 11th running 51.48.
Marcos Murillo-Benavides, Karmjeet Nagara and James McCoy all finished within five places of each other. Murillo-Benavides set a PR running 53.19 for 18th place. Nagara was 20th in 54.03 and McCoy 22nd in 54.64
• The women's 400m saw Molly Burns take 11th place running 1:04.63. 
• The final sprinting event of the day was the 200m. Jordan and Tipaldo each doubled up with the 60m for the men. Jordan took 30th place in 24.62 while Tipaldo was 39th in 26.44. 
• Burns ran a personal-best for 200m finishing 20th running 27.92, her first time running sub-28 seconds either indoors or outdoors. McConnell was 24th in 28.66. 

Relays
• Georgian Court's distance medley relay team earned points on the track with a fourth place finish. The group of Nolan Kus, James McCoy, Zachary Spoonire and Ryan Pettrow ran a season-best 11:02.85.
• The meet finished with the 4x400m relay. Georgian Court scored one final point as the team of Julian Rodriguez, James McCoy, Marcos Murillo-Benavides and Brandon Rudder took sixth place running 3:30.59.

Jumps
• It was a day full of personal-bests for Ramos-Lopez. After his PR in the 60m dash, he cleared a new personal-best in the pole vault jumping 13-0, getting over the bar on his third and final attempt at the height. That was good for eighth place and he becomes the fifth Lion to ever clear 13 feet in the vault.
Julian Rodriguez also got over the 13-0 bar in the vault. He finished in seventh place in the competition due to number of attempts. 
• On the men's side in the triple jump, Matthew Sutton had a top-10 finish placing ninth in 41-8.75.
Tishanna Cohen and Jewel Pierrecharles took sixth and seventh in the women's triple jump. Cohen was sixth jumping 34-10 while Pierrecharles was one spot behind with her mark of 34-3.75.
• The only high jumper for Georgian Court was Juliana Dogostino. She finished 14th in the event with her clearance at 4-7.

Roberts Wesleyan was the team champion on the women's side, edging out Felician by eight points and scoring 120. Holy Family took home the trophy on the men's side scoring 147 points. 

There is still one meet left on the indoor schedule. That's the Fastrack Last Chance Invitational coming up in two Fridays, Feb. 28 at Ocean Breeze.
