PHILADELPHIA- In a battle for first place supremecy in the CACC, Georgian Court University fell to host-Philadelphia University, 1-0, on a penalty kick in double overtime, Tuesday afternoon at Philly's Ravenhill Field.
The two teams, in their first meeting since last season's championship game, played 107 minutes of scoreless soccer before Philly U's
Natalie Vespe (Jr.) ended the deadlock when she drilled a penalty kick after a GCU handball at 107:58.
Philadelphia outshot Georgian Court, 24-9, including a 15-2 shot advantage in the second half.
Lions' goalkeeper,
Lindsay Hammond, the reigning CACC Player of the Week, was simply outstanding in net, denying 12 shots by the Lady Rams before the PK. Hammond went almost 467 minutes (466:50) in between goals permitted, the last coming on a GCU own-goal in a 4-1 victory at Goldey-Beacom College, September 29th.
The victory gives the Lady Rams (9-3-3, 7-1 CACC) sole possesion of first place in the conference. The Lions fall to 8-6 (6-2 CACC) with the defeat, snapping the Lions' five-game winning streak.
GCU looks to rebound this Saturday when they host Post University at 1:00 PM at Investors Savings Bank Field.
