NEW CASTLE, DE - Freshman Megan Tole scored the game's only goal to lead Holy Family University to the 2009 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Championship in New Castle, DE. The Tigers upset the No. 2 seed, Georgian Court University, to earn the CACC's automatic bid to the NCAA East Region Tournament.
Holy Family will be making its second ever trip to the NCAA Tournament by virtue of winning the CACC Championship. The Tigers won the title for the seventh time in school history. Holy Family remains unbeaten in CACC championship games with a 7-0-1 record - the 2006 game ended in a 1-1 tie and was decided on penalty kicks. The tournament field will be announced on Monday, November 9, at 7 p.m. on www.ncaa.com.
Holy Family is now 13-8-1 overall this season. GCU, the 2008 champs, end the campaign at 15-8.
Rookie forward Megan Tole scored the game's lone goal at the 63:50 mark. Midfielder Lindsay Fisher assisted on the play. It was Tole's 11th goal of the year and her first of the tournament.
Goalkeeper Gina Mansi earned the win by making six saves to record her sixth shutout of the season and her fourth in a row. Mansi stopped 16 shots in the three tournament games while leading the Tigers to three victories by idential 1-0 scores.
For Georgian Court, goalkeeper Lindsay Hammond stopped three shots in the final game of her brilliant collegiate career. She, along with teammates Skyler Eiceman and Denisha Thomas, were selected to the CACC All-Tournament Team.
