PHILADELPHIA, PA- Five days after a 5-1 drubbing at the University of New Haven, the Georgian Court University soccer club picked up the pieces and rebounded nicely with a solid victory of their own Tuesday afternoon, defeating host-Chestnut Hill College, 4-1.
GCU sophomore,
Kelly Lyons (pictured left) tallied her team-leading fifth and sixth goals of the season in the contest. The 2008 CACC Rookie of the Year put the Lions (2-3, 1-0 CACC) up, 1-0, seven minutes into the game when she drilled home a turnover by the Chestnut Hill defense.
The Griffins (3-3, 1-2 CACC) tied the game at 1-1 in the 33rd minute (32:54) on an unassisted score by freshman
Alyssa Radetich. Lyons put Georgian Court up for good less than two minutes later (32:54) when she put a
Skyler Eiceman feed in the net for her second goal on the day.
Freshman
Farrell Pomponio registered her second goal of the year in the 55th minute (54:55) and sophomore
Candace Seaton netted her second at 76:23 on a
Shealyn Sullivan assist.
Georgian Court' s senior goalkeeper,
Lindsay Hammond, collected seven saves in the victory.
The Lions travel to Bloomsburg, PA Thursday afternoon for a non-conference showdown at Bloomsburg University. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
