LAKEWOOD, NJ- A year after defeating Concordia College, 9-1, the Georgian Court University soccer team went into Saturday's contest vs. the Clippers fairly confident. What a difference a year makes as Concordia left the host-Lions dumbfounded, defeating the reigning CACC champs, 3-1, at Investors Savings Bank Field.
It looked like a repeat performance was in the works for GCU as sophomore
Kelly Lyons netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season when she put the Lions ahead, 1-0, in the 10th minute of the game (9:43) on an assist from junior
Skyler Eiceman.
Unexpectedly, that would be the end of the Georgian Court offense for the remainder of the afternoon, despite out-shooting the Clippers, 15-11.
Concordia senior,
Jullian Talbert, rattled the Lions' cages as she tied the contest off a
Susan Valencia (Fr.) feed in the 18th minute (17:06). Just 1:12 later (18:18), Talbert scored the game-winner, this time on a pass from sophomore
Kareena Seaton. Seaton added an insurance goal in the 67th minute (66:24) when she put in a penalty kick.
The victory marks Concordia's first conference win (2-3, 1-1) since joining the CACC prior to the season. The loss snaps GCU's two-game winning streak and drops them to 3-4 (1-1 CACC) on the year.
It will not get any easier for Georgian Court as they travel to perennial force, the University of Bridgeport (4-0-2), for a contest under the lights (7:00 PM) this Wednesday, September 23rd.
