LAKEWOOD, NJ- The #6 Georgian Court University soccer squad delivered its second straight CACC Tournament "upset special" Thursday afternoon as the Lions defeated #2 Chestnut Hill College, 2-1 on
Investors Savings Bank Field, earning its third consecutive trip to the CACC Championship Game.
The Lions will face Holy Family University in the title for the second straight season and look to avenge last year's loss. The #4 Tigers upset #1 Wilmington University, 3-0, in the first semifinal contest of the day.
The Griffins (14-4-2) took a speedy 1-0 advantage as
Kaelyn Pizarro (Fr.-Berlin, NJ) netted her sixth goal of the year at 5:27, heading in a ball deflected by GCU goalkeeper
Shealyn Sullivan.
Georgian Court (10-8-2) countered at 29:23 when
Jennifer Molzon fed
Candace Seaton in stride. Seaton then darted about 35 yards before depositing her fifth goal of the season.
Molzon snapped the 1-1 stalemate in the second stanza at 48:11, knocking home the game-winner off a rebounded shot by teammate
Kelly Lyons.
Sullivan tallied three saves for her 10th victory in net for the Lions. Sophomore
Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) collected seven saves in the Chestnut Hill net.
GCU takes on Holy Family for the 2010 crown this Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Georgian Court University track & field complex.
