LAKEWOOD, NJ- Candace Seaton’s second goal of the day in the 87th minute (86:48) broke a 1-1 tie and sealed a stunning 2-1 victory over #4 Holy Family University earning the Lions the 2010 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Title, GCU’s second crown in three years.
The Lions now await their destination and opponent for next week’s NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament, commencing Friday, November 12th.
The two squads played 82 minutes of scoreless soccer before a penalty kick by Kate Maguire (So.-Philadelphia, PA), after a controversial handball by a Georgian Court defender at 82:48, gave the Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
GCU answered just 44 seconds later (83:32) to tie the contest as Seaton drilled a Kelly Lyons’ dish into the lower left corner. The game-winner came exactly four minutes after the seemingly devastating penalty kick.
Shealyn Sullivan, the 2010 CACC Tournament MVP, was dominant within the Lions’ net, tallying 11 saves on 17 shots from Holy Family. Goalkeeper Gina Mansi (Jr.-Washington Township, NJ) collected a lone save for the Tigers (13-6-1) in the defeat.
The Lions’ Skyler Eiceman, Jennifer Molzon, Denisha Thomas and Seaton join Sullivan on the CACC All-Tournament team.
Georgian Court (11-8-2) also won the CACC crown in 2008 (vs. Philadelphia University) before falling to Holy Family in last year’s championship match.
