KISSIMMEE, FL- For the second time in as many days, Georgian Court and Northwood University (MI) played a grueling, back-and-forth contest with the Timberwolves coming out on top this time, 11-10, Sunday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games.
The Lions (3-1) won the first match-up on Saturday, 7-6, in nine innings and a time of 3:04.
Northwood (1-3) broke the game open (or so they thought) when they took an 8-3 lead in the top of the third inning. GCU responded with three tallies in its half of the third to make the score 8-6. The Lions would add four more unanswered runs over the next two innings to take a 10-8 advantage.
The Timberwolves would ultimately tie the affair up at 10-all with a run in the sixth and seventh innings before senior Michelle Boscola (Broomfield, CO) secured her club's first "W" of the year with a clutch RBI single in the final frame.
Georgian Court second baseman,
Rachel Ruch, blasted three doubles (3-for-5), while scoring two runs and driving home two. RF
Jen Tartaglia (1-for-3) blistered a screaming liner over the centerfield fence in the fourth inning.
Brooke Hull (0-1) took the loss for the Lions in relief of starting pitcher, Lyndsay PeQueen (3.0 IP, 6H, 8 R, 4 ER, 3 BB). Hull yielded three runs (2 ER) on six hits and a walk, while striking out three in four innings of relief.
