KISSIMMEE, FL- The Lions of GCU improved to 3-0 Saturday afternoon with an 8-6 victory over Gannon University Sunday afternooon at the Rebel Spring Games.
Georgian Court jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead over Gannon in the top of the second inning. The first five Lions' batters of the frame reached base, including an RBI single from 3B Courtney Cuevas and a ribbie bases-on-balls from C Donnie Brossoie.
The Lions would extend their lead to 6-0 in the top of the third frame when 2B Rachel Ruch (pictured) and DP Brooke Hull led off the inning with back-to-back doubles. Hull advanced to third on a wild pitch before advancing to third. Cuevas drove home Hull with an infield single.
Gannon (0-2) got on the board in the bottom of the third with two tallies before GCU countered with two more runs in the top of the fourth when Ruch tagged a two-run homer to left-center, her first of the season.
With an 8-2 lead, Hull replaced starting pitcher Diana Sansevera to start the fourth inning. Gannon was receptive to the pitching change as they countered with four scores in the stanza. That would be as close Gannon would get as Hull held her opponent at bay the rest of the way.
Sansevera (2-0) earned the "W", allowing four runs (2 ER) on five hits and two walks, while striking out four. Hull would earn the save. yielding two runs on five hits and two walks in 3.2 innings.
